If you don't have a steady hand, but you love the look of a hand painted sign, you're in luck. All you need are letter stencils and the Preval Sprayer.

Step 1: What You'll Need

  • Rectangular piece of wood
  • Cutting tools, including an exacto knife
  • Self-healing mat
  • Acrylic paint
  • Cardstock or Manila Folders
  • Printer
  • Preval Sprayer -- Lowes.com
  • Tape
  • Fine point paintbrush
  • Sandpaper

Step 2: Cut Letter Stencils

Paint a base coat of color onto the wood, and while it dries cut letter stencils out of printed-on cardstock using an exacto knife. Next, prepare the Preval Sprayer with acrylic or latex paint.

See the video for more detailed instructions.

Step 3: Paint Mixing and Fonts Tip

We mixed red and black paint to create the outline around our stenciled letters. The font we used to create our stencils was Blackoak STD, available from www.typekit.com.
