Custom XP - Visual Basic Scripting to Customize!

A simple way to change the looks of XP is is to use some $1000 dollar GUI* program, right? WRONG! You can spend money on programs, but why pay if you can do it for free? In this guide i will show you how to do it so easy that it will cost $0 and will only take a few minutes to do. Even if you are a noob!

*GUI stands for Graphical User Interface (Just for noobs)

Step 1 Info:

The following script can be dangerous to your computer and others if used inappropriately! Beware at all times, because this script can modify your computer and damage it!

Get a System Restore point

if none of this is working just try to open task manager and start a task "explorer.exe" w/o quotes it could be the problem

Just change the 0's to 1's in the script that you ran, or run system restore. Start > Help and support. Click "Restore my computer with system restore" and follow the prompts.

I am a nerdling who uses linux and win xp! and tnx to linux I kept all my files when I re-installed win xp. So problem solved.

To reverse the script:

Open the script in notepad.
(Open notepad and click and drag the script into it.)

Change the 0 to 1s, 1 to 0s.

Execute.

Click start, Run, enter "Regedit"

browse to the key that is the problem:

Example:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\Explorer\StartMenuLogoff (for start menu logoff)

You can delete or change to the opposite. (1 in key, set to 0)
this should reverse the changes with a re-install.

The fixes may require a logoff or restart

(force a restart of the computer)

"Turn CMD on? I don't know what you mean by that... Try this: Type cmd at the run dialogue. If that doesn't work, then search for "cmd" with a search. If you completely don't have it, pm me.

In schools, command prompt is normally disabled to prevent people from using it maliciously. There are instructions here. You could adapt the instructions on the page so that you can change it with a VBScript.
