I have singled out cutting , because I am currently slicing a lot of vinyl in projects and thought it would be an opportune time
to show some safety tips and and inexpensive cutter guides for blades, that can be made on the cheap . If you've price a cutter guide .you might be shocked at the cost. I was.

Items I put together:
1. mini-din rail- 50 cents from a scrap enclosure
2. threshold for carpet- neighbors trash
3. drawer/door handles- stripped from old cabinets over the years

My solution looks remarkably like yours, just dinkier. Driven by an instinctual desire to get my hand away from the action, I applied a metal screen door handle to a large metal ruler using adhesive (hasn't moved in almost two years, hey!) which coincidentally makes it harder to lose my ruler.
If I may suggest, I sprung $17 for an OSHA rated cutting glove from Grainger. It allows better dexterity than the all-purpose jobs I see you using there, and shows no signs of ever wearing out. Just a thought. Cheaper than any hoo-hoo kitchen store I could find with them, and I needed it for there, too. ;)
