Ok, no one major addition i made to the end product was to add a series of metal tin sheet panels.

I made these by making paper templates, and getting a good fit, before cutting the sections out using kitchen scissors. These were then glued in place using Epoxy.

The second side of the gun was laced with more cogs. Most of this you can make out in the final pics - ive also included some close up shots.

Let me know what you think in the comments, im about to take on a massive project, so i need all the advice i can get!

Hi there. I'm slightly confused by part of your walkthrough. I understand that the magnets hold it closed, but I don't understnad how you open them? Do you have a swith that seperates them, or do you simply pull, so that the gun opens up? I ask because I'm making my first gun and would love all the help I can get my greasy hands on. Hee hee. Also, what kinds of magnets do you use? Or did you mentaion it and I'm jus tbeing awfully slow? Cheers!

Ah, awesome. =D Unfortuantly, that means I'll have to think of a different system so I can just open the gun with a flick of a switch.

Unless the switch turned the magnet and reversed the polarity. Hm. Thank you for your help!

Yeah, an electro magnet seems better than trying to rig up some sort of magnet rotating pole. Enthusiasm and inexperience gets the better of me! Heh. I shall look up electro magnets, and discover a world of, no doubt, possibilities.

If possible, could you combine one of these projects with a coilgun design so that they actually shoot? It Would basically be so awesome that instructibles.com may pay you just for putting it on their site.

This looks great! I'm going to try and make one myself. The only thing I would suggest is painting it a brass color instead of silver. Other than that, it's great! :)
