DIY Fix Broken iPod!

Step 1 Easy does it

The first thing is to take the iPod apart.

This is not a big deal, there are little plastic holds around the iPod, and the flat head screwdriver will allow you to pry it open at the plastic parts.

Once completed, you can just snap the ipod back together so it looks exactly the same, just dont get too frustrated if it takes a few minutes to get the first clip.


Use a MICRO flat head screw driver. Go in from the side as shown in the demo, but to get it started angle the screwdriver down so that it slides in between the plastic and metal, then take a bigger sized micro screw driver to open it the rest of the way.

Any suggestions for the *ahem* vintage models? i.e. when they first came out? seriously. my paper-weight is the, original, ipod. There are no little plastic pull-out parts, and it looks pretty solid.

i have the vintage one that was lying around dead for about four years .... you can pry it open pretty much the same way, it's a bit tougher though. you may want to go look for a spare battery online (chances are yours are dead by now) and get that, it'll come with the kit to pry it open. insert both the battery as well as the folded name card. i got mine open with the micro screwdriver but damaged it a teeensy bit, however i have a cover for it so no biggie. in short, solution works!

This was absolutely genius! I fixed an old ipod 3rd generation, the black and white screen ones with the four buttons (menu, play, forward/back) .... as well as an ipod photo 4th generation. I signed up just to give a heads up comment and to thank the contributor for a marvellous idea. Saved me loads off buying a new one!
