What about the shells? Are they still usable after extracting the egg?

Step 1: Cut a hole in the box. Step 2: Put your egg in that box.

I was thinking that exact same thing - and my dirty mind had all kinds of thoughts about that video....

50 eggs per minute? I guess if you had 50 pre boiled eggs, and had pre-punched the holes, you might be able to get away with it. It does look like it is useful, however. What if you found a way to put a pin or nail or something in the end of the plunger? You could use that to pierce the egg, then pull the plunger all the way up and pump down. No need for scissors.

would need really long nail though, ti puncture teh egg from top to bottom :(
Nov 29, 2007. 12:09 PMmrmath says:
No! Short little tiny needle, just enough to get through the shell. Poke on one side. Flip. Poke on the other side. Then put it in the thing.
Nov 29, 2007. 12:29 PMaltaria1993 says:
that can be done too :) i thought you meant a needle, just to go trough the shell, egg, yolk, egg and shell again, not just shell, turn shell :P

I still do not understand how it works. Why is the rubber needed on the box? What happens to the shell? Where does it go? Why do you have to poke holes in the egg? I could peel fifty eggs in the time it would take to build this.
Sep 7, 2008. 9:50 PMwupme says:
The Rubber is there to seal, so no air gets out, and to hold the egg in place. Nothing happens to the shell, watch the video again, its still there. The hole on the top is for the air to go in, the one in the bottom to ruin the structural integrity of the eggeshell, and give the pressure a place to go. Nice that you can peel those 50eggs... Maybee this device will hit the market sometime, so you don't have to build it. Over time, this device will be more efficient then you peeling them by hand. Just imagine, you spend 30 Minutes building this. And don't ever have to peel an egg again...

You would be surprised how good something like that would sell. I got an katalouge (how do you spell that?) here in Germany where they sell al kind of strange devices, everyone you would say "geez, who needs that stuff?" until you find yourself falling in love with some of those and spending your money for it. If they would be about 10-15 Bucks, i think you can sell them. You just need the right way for it.

Thanks. So you just clear the shell from the rubber and place another egg and you are ready to go again?
Sep 9, 2008. 7:48 AMwupme says:
Thats exactly it. Clear the shell, and your good to go for another egg. So in the End, its a bit faster then by hand, but at least easier. I often tend to get the eggshell between finger and nail when i peel them....

I agree with GorillazMiko. But there are eggs of different sizes. How can you manage that?
Nov 28, 2007. 12:16 PMRectifier says:
Eggs are sorted by size, thus creating medium, large, and jumbo eggs, and the tolerances required for this device to work are quite sloppy (notice how you don't have to measure anything, just make a hole "a bit bigger than the egg") I would think those 2 factors would make this work fine for eggs of the same trade size, which is all you really care about. If you want to peel a different size of egg one day, you can just cut a different hole in another box. I like the machine, though I don't really like hard-boiled eggs, heh.

Makes me wonder why it's always medium, large and HUMONGOUS(!), and not small, medium and large... Hmm! :o
Sep 15, 2008. 11:54 AMGrey_Wolfe says:
Because HUMONGOUS eggs are awesome. When you make one of these for ostrich eggs, let me know. Hmm, I wonder how long you boil an ostrich egg to make it come out right.

Thanks, very good job.
Sep 12, 2008. 9:11 PMRooMooJoo says:
Call me cynical, but..... 1) If a whole boiled egg was blown out of it's shell, the hole at the bottom of the shell would have been bigger. 2) If by some chance the hole had remained the same size as shown in the video, the boiled egg would have to be mush to get through a hole that small. 3) The whole boiled egg (with slightly cracked shell) would have been forced through the hole/membrane if the pressure had been that high - otherwise the assumption is that the shell is so strong (and the air seal around it so good) that the mass of the boiled egg would have been ejected out of the bottom before any major damage occurred to the shell itself. 4) I now fancy a boiled egg. :(

good job, if i ever have some free time ill make one... for now ill just poke the holes and blow ;)

what did you make the plunger out of? it almost looks like some sort of wall insulation, or something similar that was then wrapped on some cpvc pipe and attached with some wire.....so what was that fabric?

Looks to me like he used a mallet for a chime instrument. If he didn't, I think the same concept would work. But why stop there? Have a scoring station made of an upright razor in a heavy woodblock. Then I would use a 2-sided cylinder and place a male air valve on the top. ring the bottom with a rubber gasket. Now while holding one hand under the egg door and one hand pressing down the cylinder, trigger a steadily increasing air pressure using a foot valve until the egg "pops". Remove egg to left, remove cylinder to right. Remove eggshell to front / forward / distal into six inch stainless waste bin. Use stainless for easy cleanup when cook under cooks eggs and you have an egg-splosion. Dave Echelberger cossack@spamcop.net
