Introduction: DIY Angry Bird Nail Art With Sharpie Markers

This is a cute and easy Angry Bird nail art tutorial that takes very little skill. I did these on my 9 year old daughter. Obviously she has very tiny nails so it was really hard to do these on her nails but it is still possible. They will be much easier on someone with larger nails. Also, I painted a lighter pink color under the beak of my birds but it didn't show up. The base polish color was too similar to it. So I did not add that step in this Instructable. If you decide to add the lighter pink just add it after you do the beak. Let's get started!

Step 1: Gather Your Supplies

You will need:

- base coat (not pictured)

- white polish (or acrylic paint like I used)

- pink polish

- fast dry topcoat (I used Seche Vite)

- extra fine tip Sharpies in colors black, light blue, and yellow or orange

- small/medium size dotting tool or toothpick

Step 2: Add Your Polish and Let It Dry.

Start off by putting on a base coat then put on a coat of your pink polish. If it is not opaque enough with one coat of pink, do 2 coats.

After that, add a coat of your fast dry top coat.

Let it dry 3-5 minutes before moving on to the next step.

Step 3: Add Your Eyes

Pour out a small drop of white acrylic paint onto a piece of scrap paper. You won't need much at all.

Dip your nail dotting tool or toothpick into the paint and make two small cylinder type shapes on each nail. These will become the eyes. If you prefer you can just do the design on an accent nail instead of all 5, it's up to you.

Step 4: Add Your Eyebrows

Use your black fine tip sharpie marker to draw eyebrows above each eye. Try to get the best line as possible but it may take some practice, especially if you are working with tiny nails or don't have a very steady hand. Try to get just a little curve in each line.

Step 5: Make the Outline for Your Beak

Use your black fine tip sharpie marker again to make the outline for the beak. The design is basically a sort of flattened diamond shape for the top part of the beak and a slightly rounded inverted triangle for the bottom of the beak. Try drawing it a few times on a piece of paper. It's easy and you will get the hang of it very fast. Again, it may take some practice to get smooth, perfect lines. That's ok...it's your (and was my) first time, we will get better with time!

Step 6: Color in Your Beak

Use your yellow or orange fine tip sharpie marker to color in the outline of your beak. Be careful here because the black marker will smear into the yellow/orange. If that happens just scribble on a scrap piece of paper until the marker draws clearly again.

Step 7: Add Your Eyes

Use your fine tip light blue sharpie marker to color in an eye on each white dot. Make the eyes as big/small as you like. =)

Step 8: Outline Your Eyes and Add Eye Lashes

Use your fine tip black sharpie marker and outline the whites of all the eyes. Then add 2-3 eye lashes on each eye. This is probably the hardest part and requires a real steady hand. Do your best! Your first time will not be your best but practice makes perfect.

Step 9: Add Top Coat

The last thing we have to do is add another layer of top coat. Make sure you swipe the tips of your nails to prevent chipping. Let it dry fully for 3-5 minutes.

Step 10: Finished Results

As I said before...I was doing these on tiny nails so they are clearly not perfect...but I know I will get better. You can do any design with these sharpie nails. I have already done vertical abstract lines, spirals and polka dots. It is much easier working with the sharpies as opposed to the polish. Give it a try! I purchased a 24pk of fine tip Sharpie markers off of eBay for about $14. You can buy these in a store but it will cost you a little more.

Please share your recreations. I'd love to see them!
