Step 1: Locate Drum

Step one, go find yourself a nice looking wooden cable drum. Make sure it doesn't already belong to someone.

Step 2: Gather Your Tools

Step 3: Dismantle

Don't loose any of your pieces, they will be handy later on.

Step 4: Router That Bitch

We used the wood panels from the drum to measure out where the router should route, penciling in where each panel was and numbered them accordingly.

Step 5: Copy and Paste

If you have trace paper, excellent; we did not. We used Baking paper and traced the grooves from the first routing experience and traced it onto the other piece of the frame (obviously turn the paper so it works).

Step 6: Drill That Mofo

next comes new holes for the metal rods, for support. You will see in the next few steps where we found the best positioning for those rods where in order to get enough support for the structure.

Step 7: Positioning

Position your nuts and bolts and what not on you metal rods so that there are 4 on the rods screwed down maybe approx. 10cm down the rod (basically screwed enough to put the rods through the holes from the drilling). .

Step 8: Line Everything Up

after putting the rods in their rightful place (and nutting it on the outside of the structure), put everything into place. Wood panels in the routed areas. It took a couple of times for us to get it to work, as you can see form the picture, we ended up taping all the panels so they wouldn't fall all over the place.

Step 9: Popping the Lid Ontop

Next is putting the next round bit on. one of us had to guide it in from the bottom and the other from the top. Again, didn't get this on the first try.

Once everything we in and secured, we tightened everything up with the torque wrench.

Step 10: Finish the Beauty

Once all is tightened and secured test it out. This was our first go at this, so its not perfect and quite rough around the edges (or rather wonky everywhere). But it looks great, nice and "rocky" and set for them summer BBQs.
