DIY Distressed Peacock Green Finish Using Chalk Paint

Creating a teal or peacock green finish using Annie Sloan Aubusson Blue Chalk Paint, CeCe Caldwell's Emerald Isle Chalk and Clay Paint and Martha Stewart's Gold Metallic Paint.

Step 1: Find Your Perfect Piece

I found this lovely desk on a local facebook yardsale sight and had to have it! I immediately knew it was perfect for the peacock green with gold finish I'd been wanting to create! Pieces with pretty details and lines are ideal for such an ornate look.

Step 2: Base Color Goes On

I forget this half the time, but it makes life so much easier to get the bottom done this way!

Step 3: Base Color Goes On

I started with the Aubusson Blue first, but it's up to you. Choose the color you want to be dominant for the base and the other will be a highlight.

Step 4: Add Highlights

Dry brush your highlight color in prominent areas and sparingly.

Step 5: Add Gold Touches

Choose what you want to have that gold glimmer. I chose the door fronts and the desk top trim.

Step 6: Distress!

Lightly sand areas that would naturally see wear and tear or distress heavily everywhere. Otherwise you tend to have that leopard spot look. I used my new 3M Sanding System with my vacuum cleaner. perfect!

Step 7: Wax With Clear and Dark Wax

Make sure to use clear first, or the dark wax will change the actual color of the paint. Clear wax allows the dark wax to deepen the tone and brings out beautiful details. BUFF like crazy to bring out the shine!
