Introduction: DIY Dog Bed (or Cat Bed)

About: A knitter who wants to do crafts and share.

My dog loves to burrow into her blanket and sleep in a dog, but sometimes dog beds can be pricey, so why not make your own? The bed I made is about 16" by 16" pillow like bed. It makes a great gift for dog lovers out there.

This is what make me want to make my own: http://www.foreverhomepet.com/small-pet-bed

Step 1: Materials

Fabric, matching thread, scissors or a rotary cutter, pins and a needle, a ruler, a sewing machine (or you can hand sew it), a marker, stuffing or a pillow

Step 2: Picking Fabrics

I choose a soft fluffy fabric great for snuggling with (even though it makes a mess). If you are using 3 different fabrics (like me) then choose which will be the pillow and what will be the blanket. I'm using the blue for my pillow and the poka-dot blue will be the top part of my blanket and the purple will be the bottom.

Step 3: Making the Blanket

Because my fabric makes a mess I sew 2 pieces together and flip inside-out. I noticed I didn't have much of one fabric to make the blanket so I'm using 2 different scrape fabrics.the blanket I made is 17" by 12.50".
Pin it all together, then sew it all together leaving one side open to be flipped inside out.
Tie off the treads trim the extra fabric.

Tip* You don't need to sew the opening the to the blanket it'll be sewed closed later on.

Step 4: Pinning the Pillow

Trace a 16" by 16" square leaving seam allowance.
Take the blanket and place in the inside of the pillow case (the outside of the pillow) make sure to line up the blanket with the pillow pieces then pin together.

Step 5: Sewing Everything Together

Pin the pillows s blanket together. It's easier to sew the opening closed where there is no blanket part. (Look at the 2nd picture for reference.) Don't forget to turn the fabric at every corner. Once it's at the last corner tie the loose threads and cut off the extra fabric.

Step 6: Stuffing

Stuff till your please with the outcome.

Step 7: Finishing Touches

Pin the fabric like in the pictures.

Step 8: Sewing It Closed

Sewing it closed is the best part because it means you are one step closer to being done!o when up get to the end tie a knot and hide the thread and cut.

Step 9:

Now you are done! Let your dog snuggle up his or hers new bed.
