Introduction: DIY: Envelope Liners

About: hello, nice to meet you :) i'm just another ordinary girl that loves arts & crafts. i can't sit still for a long time, so expect quite a few instructables coming your way! for random snippets of my babble an…

July is here and that oftentimes translates into sending good old snail mail! In this DIY, you'll learn how to add a personal touch to your envelopes for almost nothing :)

Step 1: Patterns

You will need:

  • images, patterns for the envelope liner
  • envelopes
  • a gluestick
  • scissors
  • pencil or pen

First of all, decide what you want the inside of your envelopes to be. It can be patterned card stock in order to make the envelope more sturdy, or something as flimsy as magazine paper.

Step 2: Trace

Open the flap of your envelope and take your pencil or pen, tracing the outline of your envelope on the wrong side of your image/pattern. Once that's done, make your outline a little smaller than that of the envelope in order for the liner to fit inside. Cut the image out and slide that into the envelope.

Double check that there is an allowance (~1cm around the edge of the flap) for the "glue" part on the envelope. If the paper covers it, take your scissors and trim it until it no longer covers that part of the envelope. Note that you CAN leave it covered, but it all depends on how you like it :)

Step 3: Finishing

With the liner in the envelope, make a crease where the flap closes and then glue the liner's flap to the envelope's flap. You will not need to glue the entire liner (just the flap!) as it holds pretty securely in place - being flat and parallel with your letters after all!

And tada! Your very own personalized envelope :)

Let me know how you like your envelopes, cause I usually have to make my own in order to fit the smaller stationery paper I use. These liners add a touch of security, as well as a whole load of personality!

Enjoy :)
