Introduction: DIY Galaxy Shoes

About: I am a sophomore in college. I'm engaged to be married to the best thing that has ever happened to me. I am very dedicated to becoming a pharmacist. My life is awesome and I couldn't ask for anything more.

Here's a relatively cheap and awesome DIY project to turn your shoes into galaxy shoes!

To begin, here are the materials you will need:
Cheap Black Canvas Shoes ($10 at Walmart)
Paint of different and fun colors, the more vibrant the better
Paintbrushes, sponges, anything to paint with
Water in a cup
something to cover up your surroundings and a towel for cleaning
Masking tape or painters tape

Optional: Mod Podge (Helps to seal in paint but is NOT waterproof)
Waterproof Sealant Spray -so water won't wash away your hard work
Paint Palette -You can use a paper plate or something else but this is very helpful
Glitter Paint- This added a nice touch and makes the stars sparkle!

Step 1: Cover Up

Wrap the white parts of your shoe with either masking or painter's tape. It will come out much cleaner in the end!

Step 2: Paint Your Colors

Here I painted a bunch of the colors I had. I used a wide and smooth paintbrush and smoothed the edges out like shown. Experiment with where to put what colors and the shapes. I mimicked the same style on both shoes but mirror images, but also purposely changed them up a bit for variety.

Step 3: STARS

Now it's time for the best part, stars! I used a hard bristled paintbrush like shown but you can also use a toothbrush or anything like that. I put white paint on the brush and used my finger to flick stars onto the shoe repeatedly, covering all parts. Try to mimick a galaxy by making clusters of stars and different sizes. I also did another round of stars after the white dried, with the white glitter glue. It's a little more transparent so I made sure to do the plain white first for vibrancy. It adds a nice sparkle though in person. Just have fun with this step!

Step 4: Starbursts

Lastly, you'll want to add some larger stars like the ones I made. I started with a glob of white paint in the center and dragging it out with a small thin brush. Try adding some around the laces!

Step 5: Ruin Everything (Optional)

Just Kidding! This is the mod podge step. Add a layer of the stuff all over the shoe, making sure to get it in all the thread crevices and the outlines. I always do this with a sponge brush. It helps to push it down with your finger but it can get messy. Don't be alarmed when it looks like the first picture! It might look like you're ruining all of your hard work but I promise it will not mess with any of the paint and it dries completely clear! Make sure you finish with a waterproof spray because mod podge is water based and if water hits your shoes, they will actually be ruined.

Step 6: Clean Up!

While you're waiting on the mod podge and water sealer to dry, clean up. Put all the materials under hot water. Especially the mod podge brush as soon as you're done using it. It will dry quickly and will ruin your brush if you don't

Step 7: Remove the Tape

This is always fun. Remove the tape and see how clean everything looks. :)

Step 8: Lace Em Up!

Lace up your shoes in any fashion you'd like.

Step 9: Wear Them!

You're all done! Now here comes my favorite part. Wear them!
