Introduction: DIY LED Glow Cubes (Accent Lighting & Night Lamp)
I love LEDs~!
People who have been following me know this very well. Now here's a New one for you.
LED GLOW BLOCKS!
LED Glow blocks are a neat way to accentuate your Posh Living room, Add a fill to your Existing Lights, for use as a Elaborate and artistic Night lamp or a cool and Diffused light source for Meditation or Rest.
Ya with me?
What you'll Need-
Glass Blocks or Plastic Blocks
Solder Set and Hot glue
Tools like wire strippers, Pliers etc
Power Socket near Glow Blocks
20 Minutes of time.
P.s For Those who are confused, Its a daytime Pic. LEDs appear a LOT brighter after the dusk.
Step 1: Get the Sparkles!
For LED glow blocks, We Obviously need some LEDs. I Got some White LED Strip lights at Rs. 80 Per meter. They use small 3258 LEDs and They use Lots of them! Our ticket to Diffused, cool Light.
Here is a Reference Link-
Solder Copper wires Observing the Polarity. Its highly recommend to dab Hot glue or silicone for durability.
Then Make parallel connection with all the copper wires. It will depend on How many glass blocks you have, and how bright you want it to be. I used 4 strings of 3 feet each and brought all 4 wires into parallel keeping polarity in Mind.
Step 2: Mount Behind Blocks
The Next step is to Mount the LEDs. Since we want a diffused Glow emenating FROM the blocks, we have used LED strings as Backlights. I Put one string in Each vertical Groove. You can have more at the edges or even make a full matrix for each block! Thats bright!
Easiest way is to simply Tape them with some transparent tape. Make sure you Test everything before finalizing.
Step 3: Power to Ye
These LED strips are designed for 12V operation. We have used a 12v SMPS or Transformer for powering the same.
As all our connections are in parallel, its only a matter of connecting final wires to this SMPS.
Step 4: Relish
Wait for the dusk and Praise your new creation. It does look much better in person than any picture can Describe. Enjoy!
My Multi meter Shows that the whole Project Consumes only 2 Watts of Power! The LED advantage lends a "Green Edge" To this project. We could keep the accent lamps Running with a Miser 2 Watts compared to 40 Watts+ power required by Comparative Incandescents. The Project also generates No heat and Is safe to touch.
