Step 5: Dismanteling the LCD

 Before taking apart the LCD:

-Try the screen and see if it works.

-Don't take the protective film off the LCD. That will be the VERY last step (as it will protect the LCD from scratches).

-Put some tape on top of the protective film and write down some letters (like DVD). This will help you always see what is the top and bottom of the LCD, even without having to turn it on.

A picture is worth a thousand words... so I guess a video is worth even more..... so.... Here is the video of how to take apart and desolder the back light.

I tried to do everything in front of the camera, but some times I forgot, sorry! :)

And here the video of how to desolder the backlight.

newtonn2 (author) in reply to zirevDec 1, 2010. 11:45 PM
You could if the PSP still show images. But how are you going to connect it to a pc or something? Does it have that possibility? Sorry I don't know much about PSPs

Where did you get the 2'' lcd from? What is the resolution, any good? Trying to hack a cheap $60 projector i got from cvs to project without all those honeycombs.
newtonn2 (author) in reply to JMV5171195Oct 7, 2010. 11:01 PM
I got it from ebay. It was a 640*480, I will probably look for something with more pixels than that.
newtonn2 (author) in reply to aekaraSep 28, 2010. 8:23 AM
What lenses are you using? The setting looks good.
MrHateful in reply to newtonn2Oct 6, 2010. 2:53 AM
I was going to go with a basic frensel x2 ,triplet, and condsor. I was wondering thoguh. Would it be wiser to put the triplet on the light instead of the condenser lens.

also I'm running into lcd issues. I've been looking at the 3.5 inch like yours which is a 600x480? and the 4,3 which claims to have a 1440x290 resolution.

the 1440 is awesome but the 290 isn't so hot. what do you think?

The last issue I'm having with this is the wiring. I have very little experience in wiring. I was only planning on doing a basic led/lcd/fan and maybe some speakers. But I'm not sure about how all the wiring would come togeather. And quite frankly I'm afraid to just slap it togeather since the led and driver are almost 50 bucks and the lcd is another 30.

thanks again.
newtonn2 (author) in reply to MrHatefulOct 7, 2010. 11:06 PM

You can't use the triplet as condenser lens, they do a different job. I never try that setting and never really see anybody do it.

600*480 doesn't look to bad. The other one I don't know how the 290 will affect the overall projected image.

The best thing to do if you have no much experience wiring, is to get wall adaptors for everything an join them in one.

as always a gent thanks for the responce.

Hello, My FFC got removed from the monitor and now not working. I have used 7 " Car dvd player for project since i ave controller circuit of that dvd player. I am thinking to use this controller circuit with 7" foto frame LCD monitor. Will this work?
newtonn2 (author) in reply to AbhineoSep 12, 2010. 1:08 AM

Hi there. Can't you find another FFC? Is very unlike that you could use a different LCD with the controller of the dvd player. But I have to say that I've done it once. But it wasn't a photo frame, it was another video device.

If you have the same connectors on the LCDs, give it a try.
AlPal88 says: Aug 29, 2010. 5:52 PM
great instructable!! but i was wondering if i could use a 7in. LCD from an old DVD player instead of a smaller LCD.
newtonn2 (author) in reply to AlPal88Aug 30, 2010. 2:58 AM
Thank you. You could do it, but maybe using another light source. I done it before, you could see it here http://www.instructables.com/id/DIY-Projector-using-an-OHP/
AlPal88 in reply to newtonn2Sep 10, 2010. 10:03 PM
how about this lcd?

dear newton can you explain why you disable the black light
newtonn2 (author) in reply to GaetsJul 21, 2010. 11:41 PM
That's is because the way the projector works is projecting light thru the LCD, if you leave the backlight in place, this will be impossible.
saijaipri says: Jun 28, 2010. 8:32 AM
dear newton please check the below link, will it help? its resolution is only 320X240. http://cgi.ebay.in/Xenos-3-5-inch-TFT-LCD-Monitor-Display-/260626076626?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_203&hash=item3cae8653d2
newtonn2 (author) in reply to saijaipriJul 4, 2010. 1:13 PM
The resolution is low. I will not get anything lower than 640*480
saijaipri says: Jun 26, 2010. 8:44 PM
can we use 3.5inch lcd screen instead of 2inch. your lcd looks bigger? can you please suggest the correct size and model if possible....
TheCiscoKid says: Feb 9, 2010. 6:45 PM
i have the exact same screen and i have been trying to test it out.... should the screen turn on right away when i connect the red wire to a power supply, or do i need to connect the rest... when i connect it i get nothing.. coulf the screen just not work?
newtonn2 (author) in reply to TheCiscoKidFeb 9, 2010. 11:33 PM

Yo need to connect the two power leads, black and red. and also you need to connect it to any AV source, if you don't connect it to a DVD or something the screen will remain black.
arifsethi in reply to newtonn2Jun 22, 2010. 1:15 PM
hi just a quick question. what power supply u used ? 12v or less and how much amp it is caz i got the same trie d with 12v 4Amp. thanks in advance
TheCiscoKid in reply to newtonn2Feb 10, 2010. 12:12 PM
haha... so I tried to connect the two leeds... but didnt realize that my power supply has an output of 125 v... so i heard a loud popping noise and the thing smells like fried plastic.  I took it apart and the copper going from the red wire in the circuit board seems to have burnt off.  other than that i dont see any visible damage...is the thing useless now?... sorry to bother I am new at this and just want to learn...

Francisco
newtonn2 (author) in reply to TheCiscoKidFeb 10, 2010. 10:46 PM
Ok, most probably is broken, but you could try to solder a cable where the copper line was, and then try it with a proper power supply.
mcastles in reply to TheCiscoKidFeb 10, 2010. 8:39 PM
Sounds like you did fry it, I once used a 12 volt 1 amp adapter on a 12 volt 5 milliwatt LCD  display. Technically it should work and it did but if you have to much voltage or if you put the wires backwards that will cause problems.
speedfreak007 says: May 25, 2010. 12:01 PM
there are various 3,5 inch lcd screens with 640x480 resolution on ebay (meant to mount in your car), how can i be sure that i can manage to "isolate" the lcd panel (i mean that you can use it for a projector; no cables preventing the "isolation" of the lcd ?)

i hope somebody understands what i'm trying to say, because i can't explain it better in english :)
newtonn2 (author) in reply to speedfreak007May 31, 2010. 1:19 AM
I'm not too sure. My guess is that most of them with a resolution of 640*480 will do the job.  If you can get one like the one I did use you will not have any problem.
speedfreak007 in reply to newtonn2Jun 1, 2010. 1:44 AM
i fount one on ebay that looks exactly like yours, but the resolution isn't 640x480. I'm just gonna buy one and see if i can use it. i will let you guys know if it's a good lcd for this project

i'm going to buy this one: cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll
