Introduction: DIY Paper Christmas Trees

These modern and sweet paper trees are easier than they look thanks to a template and easy-to-follow directions from the creative team at Minted. Whether you make one tree or a whole forest, you can add an easy, yet striking and modern, holiday touch to your home with this fun craft.

Step 1: Gather Your Supplies

To make these trees, you'll need:

  • Colored paper
  • Pen
  • Scissors
  • Ruler (or other straight edge)
  • Empty ballpoint pen, old credit card, or bone folder
  • Glue stick
  • Template

Step 2: Trace the Template

Print the template out onto an extra piece of paper. Cut out the template and trace the outline onto colored paper. Make small marks where the fold lines intersect the sides.

Step 3: Cut Out the Shapes

Cut out the traced shape. You’ll need three of these pieces for the large tree and two pieces for the small tree.

Step 4: Score and Fold

Using the empty ballpoint pen, old credit card, or bone folder along with the ruler, score the fold lines (marked with dashes on the template). Fold the paper accordion-style along the score lines.

Step 5: Glue Folds Together

Glue the inner folds of each tree piece together as shown. Repeat for all tree pieces.

Step 6: Glue End Flaps

Glue the end flaps of the pieces together to join them.

Step 7: Make Star Topper

To make the star topper, print out the template and cut it out. Then trace it onto colored paper and cut out the traced shape. Score and fold along the dashed lines, and gently shape into a three-dimensional star. Attach it to your tree with glue.

Step 8: Enjoy Your Masterpiece!

Use your tree as a centerpiece or as an accent on a mantle. Or make more trees in different sizes for a striking effect!
