Making flower from soft drink can isn't anything new, especially roses. I always loved the ones made out of coca-cola cans.

Anyways, I decided to make rose out of drink cans. I found an-easy-to-trace template and gave it a try, you'll find that in the 'Flower Making Technique-1' step of this ible. After making the first rose I came up with another technique (Flower Making Technique-2), which I found easier than the previous one, since sculpting the petals is quite difficult after attaching them together.

So... collect some soft drink cans, check out this ible and make these pretty roses in no time!

Step 1: Materials Needed

To make these can flowers you'll need:

 1. Soft drink can,
 2. X-acto knife,
 3. Scissors,
 4. Pencil,
 5. Flower template,
 6. Nut and bolt,
 7. Awl.
 8. Wooden board and hammer (optional but they make the hole making step easier).

Step 2: Preparing the Can

Collect empty soft drink cans and clean the inside to get rid of the stickiness. I made 1 flower out of 1 can. The number of cans to make each flower would depend on the size of the flower, so it's your choice.

I used an x-acto knife to make a small cut right below the top (you can also start from the bottom) of the can,

Then, I used scissors to cut off the top,

Now, cut straight towards the bottom,

And now, simply cut off the bottom part.

Rub the can on the edge of a table to flatten it.

Step 3: Preparing the Petals

You can come up with your own pattern or template for petals. I collected a template from the internet, I thought it was quite easy and the flower turns out great!

Place the templates on the flattened can and trace around the edges of the template petals,

Use scissors to cut the petals out. You will have: 3 single petals, 1 large 3-petaled flower, 2 small 3-petaled flowers and a small 5-petaled flower.

Use an awl to make small holes on the cutout petals and flower (as you can see in the last picture of this step). Place the cutout petals and flowers on a wooden board, place the awl right on the spot (for the hole) and hammer the awl once or twice to make the hole. The hole should be appropriate for the bolt to fit in.

Step 4: Flower Making Technique-1

Take the bolt and insert it through the hole of the 5-petaled flower, see the first picture of this step.

Accordingly, insert the 2 small 3-petaled flowers, large 3 petaled flower and the 3 individual petals.

Turn them around the push them towards the closed end of the bolt,

Attach the nut on the back of the bolt and try to tighten it as much as possible.

Now, one-by-one bend the petals upwards (5-petaled flower), use looping pliers to give them a nice shape,

For the rest, bend them up and then bend the 1/3 of them (from the top) backwards to give them a blooming rose shape.

Keep doing the same until you're done.

Step 5: Flower Making Technique-2

Here's another technique I came up with while making the first one.

Like the previous one, you will have to cutout the petals and flower and make hole on them.

But this time we'll sculpt the petals before attaching them together.

For this flower you will need 2 more 2-petaled flower shapes (see the second picture of this step).

Take the bolt and insert the 2-petaled flower shapes through it, see the 3rd picture of this step. Bend them up one-by-one and squeeze them to the center.

Accordingly, insert the 5-petaled flower, 2 small 3-petaled flowers, large 3 petaled flower and the 3 individual petals.

Attach the nut on the back of the bolt and tighten it as much as possible. I used flat nose pliers to attach and tighten the nut with the bolt.

You may also use the other side of the cans (colored-patterned side) to make the roses. I just got addicted to making these, will be making more very soon!

Enjoy!

OMG so beautiful

i can't wait to try this at home. Do you have to wear gloves to keep from cutting your fingers?

loveit!

Ah, I never thought of using a nut and bolt. Clever. Much easier than trying to find an adhesive that will bond aluminium.

I love the beautiful pattern on the side of the Coke can. You could use that by itself to make a pretty ornament, or maybe even a piece of jewelry.

Can't wait to try this. Think I will try to make other flowers once I master the basics. Thanks for a great idea!

Wow, they are gorgeous!

Nice...ya got my vote !

Wow! that just looks simply amazing. How are you able to cut those petals so neatly? I've tried making things from these cans but didn't turn out so neat.

Very well made. Voted.
