Introduction: DIY Sidewalk Chalk

Are you tired of buying sidewalk chalk to draw on the sidewalk every summer? Well, you found the right instructable! This DIY Sidewalk Chalk is perfect for drawing on the sidewalk and it is washable! Drawing on the sidewalk can be very fun, so let's start making our own DIY Sidewalk Chalk! :)

Step 1: Gathering Your Supplies

Here are the supplies you will need for this instructable:

-Plaster of Paris Kit

-Food Coloring

-Ice Cube Molds

-Scissors

-Paper Plate

-Paper Towels

-Plastic Cup

-Toothpicks

-Plastic Spoon (Not shown in photos)

Step 2: Making the Molds

First, open up your Plaster of Paris Kit and take the bag of white powder out. Use the scissors to cut the bag open. Then pour some white powder into the cup. Next, take the color of food coloring you'd like your chalk to be and put about 5 drops into the cup with powder in it. Add a little water to the cup and stir with your spoon. Make sure you stir it completely. Scoop some of it out and put it into the ice cube molds.

If you'd like to make more than one color of chalk, repeat that process just with another color of food coloring. I did blue, green and teal. Also I did one white piece of chalk. (White pieces of chalk require no food coloring.)

Lastly let the molds dry completely for a few hours or overnight.

Step 3: Taking the Molds Out

On my ice cube molds, the bottom of each mold there was green rubber so I could easily push the rubber to get my chalk out. If you have a different type of ice cube molds, like all rubber ones just carefully bend it around so the molds come out easily.

I took all of my molds out when they weren't completely dry so if they aren't dried all the way place them on a paper towel and let them fully dry.

Step 4: Testing and Finishing

Now it's time to test our chalk on the sidewalk!

I put my chalk in a plastic bag and took it outside. The chalk works very well and is washable.

I hope you enjoy making your DIY Sidewalk Chalk. Have fun!
