Step 4 Cell with conductive pen line

here's an example of a cell with the conductive pen line on it, linking between the tiny conductive leads on the negative side of the solar cell.

I am having problem with the POSITIVE side of broken cell, can not seem to get solder to stick to the grey ,(pos ) side ,then when I went to find WIRE MESH ,(wal-mart, home depot , radio shack, hardware stores _{and dollar stores ,)I find that they do not carry anything like it,? so I need to know how to get solder and tabbing wire to work or where to get wire mesh ,what grade of mesh I need or any help to get broken cells to work ?}

wouldn't a piece of aluminum foil work here as well? i don't have a conductive pen so ill just tape some foil across if I do this.

i've tried to use conductive tape to connect them, but it was impossible to use while keeping all the pieces facing one direction (since it is not easy to connect two pieces of tape... they do not conduct through the sticky side). I'd be curious to know if you succeeded using aluminum foil. Seems like it would not be a good solution since you need a small enough piece as to not cover the cell, but still need to attach it somehow to the silicon.
