Introduction: DIY Super Powerful LED Torch

Hello Guys We are back on our 8th Instructable on this site...

Recently our town was suffering from a power cut and me and my brother found that our old torch was broken and was not very powerful one...

So we decided to make one for us...

We searched the whole instructables site for a DIY powerful torch but we just can't find an easy one...

So we decided to make a Powerful Torch that is powerful and yet it is portable...

We have used three 1w LEDs and a good and simple circuit to enhance their power and life...

Now their was an argument for the torch's body...

We both searched the GrabCAD for getting some CAD files for the torch body to 3D Print it...

And we also searched The Pepakura database for the papercraft way...

You can use any way you want but we have got the body of an old torch that was perfect for us...

Just make this torch and use it as an Adventurer's help or as your bicycle headlight...

Or you can use many of these with colorful LEDs for a disco party!!

Step 1: Materials Required...

So here is a list of materials required...

For the circuit we need-

Some tools we need-

  • Soldering iron
  • Wire Cutter
  • Scissors
  • Tape
  • Hot Glue Gun

For the body we need-

  • An old torch OR Attached CAD files OR PDF files...

Just get these materials and then you can start working on this torch...

Step 2: Preparing...

If you have got an old torch just like us...open it and take out the light bulb or leds out of it...

And remove the old slide switch from it...

And don't forget to remove the cells...

We will need to join the 9v battery and the 3v coin cell in parallel to make 12v out of it...

Now take the 1w LEDs and put them on the reflector and adjust them according to the circuit...

Attach wires to the slide switch...And Solder them...

Attach wires to the push button...And solder them...

Check that your battery is going in the torch...and if not then use sand paper to adjust the fitting...

Cut out a piece of PCB or Cardboard and put the slide switch and push button on it and fit it in the space where the Torch's old switch was...

Check that all the LEDs glow when you join them with the battery...

And the 100k resistor should absorb 1v out of the battery so that 12-1=11v...

If you want to 3D print you torch then download the attached files...

If you want to make it with paper then convert these files to PDO Here

Step 3: Making the Circuit...

We have made a torch with two brightness modes toggled with the help of the slide switch...

Using the circuit diagram for help carefully follow these instructions below-

First Attach All the leds to their respective places and solder them..

Then connect all the leds parallel which means that connect all + with each other and take a wire out and each

- with each other and take a wire out....

Then take the slide switch and then connect its 1st wire to the + of leds...

Then connect its 2nd wire to a wire from the push button...

Then connect its 3rd wire to The 100K resistor...

Then connect the other end of the resistor to the + of leds...

Now take the push button and connect its other end to + from the battery...

Now connect the - of battery to the - of the leds...

Now solder the connections and secure them With tape...

This will complete the circuit and then you have to just assemble the torch...

Step 4: Assembling the Torch....And Finished....

As we have completed the circuit now lets begin to place everything in its position...

If you have made a papercraft or 3d printed torch then you can customize it according to your choice....

Now lets start assembling-

First take the battery and place it carefully inside the torch body and hot glue it.....

Then take the switches Which we had assembled in a cardboard strip or PCB

Then hot glue them to the space in the torch body...according to your needs...

Now carefully attach the led assembly with a glass circle and attach it to the top of the torch...

Now secure everything with hot glue....

Now carefully close your torch...

And BLINK It's ready.....

Now use this torch for dark nights Or power cuts and never depend on anything else...

You can add Different Cycling Leds Or Any other light...

Plz comment your suggestions we will try to make it.....

We will accept all your comments and emails...

Thank you for watching and Plz Vote...
