Introduction: DIY Suspension Training Equipment

I looked on the web for suspension training ideas and saw many great DIY ideas out there.  However they seemed to be lacking what I thought was the correct material and hardware.  This "instructable" will teach you how to create your very own suspension training straps that are durable, safe and strong.  Similar to a TRX.

I ordered my strap material from Strapworks (www.strapworks.com), who provided excellent customer service and great pricing. Carabiners (karabiner) were purchased from a local hardware store as well as the PVC pipe.  Total was approximately $45 for all pieces and material.

Breaking strength of the polyester webbing is in the range of 1500 to 10,000 pounds. The webbing is professionally sewn together at strapworks per order with a strong box style stitching.

You can find many work out routines on Youtube or on the web for ideas on how to use suspension training equipment.

Disclosure: Use at your own risk.  Consult a physician before attempt suspension training.

Step 1: Assembling the Long Adjustable Straps

Assemble the long 8 foot loop strap to the cam buckle work strap as shown.  Loop the strap back under the cam buckle and test the buckles ability to grab and hold the strap under weight.  Attach carabiner to the short loop strap for anchor attachment later.

Step 2: Assemble Handles

"Thread" the 2ft simple loop strap (without D Rings) though the 6" PVC pipe (I used 1" Pipe, you can cut is as desired to fit the size of your hands). Loop the 2ft loop strap with D Rings on either side of the strap that was threaded through the PVC pipe. Join the straps together at the top with a carabiner as shown.  (Not shown: I added bicycle foam handles on the PVC for comfort)

Step 3: Anchor Handles

Anchor handles to the adjustable length loop strap (long section) with the cam buckle as shown.

Step 4: Bar Anchor

Loop the 2ft simple strap with O rings to pull up bar or anchor point.  I am using my door mounted pull up bar until I create a permanent anchor point in the ceiling.

Step 5: Connect Assembled Suspension Strap

Use another carabiner to connect the short loop strap that is connected to the cam buckle to the anchor.

Step 6: Repeat Steps

Repeat steps to build second suspension strap and attach to anchor.
