Introduction: D.I.Y Variable Soldering Station

Do you want a variable tempature soldering iron? But to expensive? Well today I will show you how to make your own.

You Will Need:

1x Light Dimmer
1x Cheap Soldering Iron
1x Extention Cord
2x Loomex Connector
1x Switch Plate
1x Utility Box

Step 1: Getting the Utility Box Ready

On your utility box pop the hole on the top and bottom; as shown in the picture

Step 2: Installing the Loomex Connectors

Now you will need to install the loomex connectors and lock the locking nut.

Step 3: Inserting the Wires Into the Utility Box

Now cut the female part of the extension cord off; and the male part of the soldering iron.

Connect the non ribbed wire from the extention cord to one of the black wire on the dimmer; and the non ribbed wire from the soldering iron to the other black wire.

Connect the 2 ribbed wires together (neutral).

Put the green (GND) from the dimmer underneath the screw that goes to the utility box and dimmer, and tighten it down.

Now you can tighten the screws on the two loomex connectors.

Step 4: Closing Up the Utility Box

close up the utility box and connect the two screws from the cover plate to the dimmer.

Step 5: Your Done!!!

Congrads! Your are now done, and should have a working variable temperature soldering iron
