About: Hey, I'm Muhaimina! A Craftaholic person (or Witch if you may say!). Obsessed with swirls and polka dots... and Instructables is pretty much my second home! Follow my IG Blog https://www.instagram.com/the_craf…

Mixed media art have always amazed me and they can really refresh your mind. Few materials that I always have near hand are- satin fabric, aida fabric, dry tree branches…. So I thought of getting started with mixed media art. The first idea that popped in my mind was – aida fabric background, with satin flowers on it.

After completing the art it seemed quite nice and I had to share the tutorial here.

You can use this pattern for wall art, invitation or greeting cards, album cover, gift box decoration, scrapbooking, diary cover and much more. Seems like a perfect craft for wedding season, right?

Hope you like it!

Step 1: Materials Needed

To make this card you'll need:

  1. Satin fabric,
  2. Aida fabric,
  3. Scissor,
  4. Needle and thread,
  5. White glue,
  6. Lighter or candle,
  7. Thick paper.

Step 2: Preparing Background

For the background I used aida fabric but you can use any kind of fabric.

Cut a small piece out of the aida fabric, (I took 3 X 3 inches of aida fabric),

Carefully pull out a few (2-3) threads from all sides of the cut out aida fabric to create fringes,

The background is ready!

Step 3: Satin Flowers & Leaves

To make satin flower for this card you have to cut out 4-5 circles out of satin fabric of different diameters (I've cut out 4 circles of 4 different diameters).
After cutting the circles, carefully burn their sides with a lighter or candle but it’s better to use candle.
Use thread and needle to attach the circles (fabric layers) together to form a flower like pattern,
Also attach a bead in the middle of the satin flower.

For the leaves I used green and blue satin fabric.
Similarly cut and burn the sides of the fabric for the leaves.

Step 4: Mixed-Media Art

Now that you have the satin flowers, leaves and aida fabric ready, you can start the art!

Before gluing the flowers, arrange them on the fabric to see which pattern looks nice.

After deciding a pattern simply glue the flowers and then the leaves on the aida fabric.

Allow the glue to dry.

Step 5: Completing the Card

Prepare the thick paper for the card. You can color the thick paper as you want, but make sure the color combination of the card and satin flowers match nicely.

Apply glue at the back of the aida fabric,
Carefully place the glued side on the front of the card and press the corners of the aida fabric, making sure it's glued evenly on all sides,
Allow the glue to dry.

Done! You can use different kinds of fabric flower patterns as well. This is a fun craft and I'm sure you'll enjoy your time making some :)
