Adding any kind of heat to alcohol will cause it to evaporate and just leave resins. And on top of that, for anything to be disinfected by alcohol it needs to be submerged in it for at least 60 minutes.

instead of vodka, why not use cheaper isopropyl alchohol? It's also called rubbing alcohol.

I say screw the fabreeze drink the vodka and clean my house!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, i know alcohol is an anitseptic, but IMHO at way higher concentrations... That's y I asked ;) But if it works, I'll have to try this... BasketCase: alcohol works because its amphiphile, which means it's lipophile AND hydrophile... which makes it a good solvent. And vodka works great because it doesn't stink as much (thats why pilots and doctors prefer to drink vodka while working and not whiskey ;) )

Ehm. Ok.
Oct 19, 2006. 10:08 AMDaykun says:
Oh, and because (at least good) vodka has a very high percentage of ethanol compared to uncleaner alcohols... (which also means the stuff you clean with it doesn't get that much of a hangover... ;) )

Vodka does work. I really don't know the specifics on how it works, but I've been in some professional theatre productions and they use vodka on costumes and such.

Hrm... does this really kill "bacteria and such" ? I mean... there's hardly any alcohol left in that mixture... Or is the alcohol not the part that should kill stuff !? I always thought alcohol kills... or was it smoking... Yes, start to smoke and you also won't notice your stuff smells... And as Nicotine is a great Insect Poison, you have that advantage, too ;)

if you use febreze it can leave "rings" where it dryed but wth vodka no rings and no smell after it is dry, it is also help full in cleaning bathroom floors if they smell.
Sep 22, 2006. 6:46 PMrudolph says:
Maybe if you're using a whole bottle of febreze a week you should consider doing laundry, or taking the trash out or something? Or, drink the vodka so you don't care about the smell. Also, two words: Dollar Store. Full size bottle of no-name febreze is, you guessed it, a dollar.

Is vodka really cheaper than febreze? i imagine that if you had to go out and buy these supplies you'd be spending way more than the price of a refill bottle.

You can buy really cheap vodka and filter it through a Britta filter. That'd remove the impurities and probably much of the offensive smell you get from an inferior vodka.

This has made the rounds a few times, but it's one of the best examples out there.

Mythbusters kinda debunked that with a "professional" vodka connoisseur and double blind test... He was able to identify the top notch vodka and then there was no apparent pattern the filtration number. I had even tried this before they did -- I was unable to order them by filtration (but I'm no expert :P). Quality has to do with the distilation process... not so much on the filtration. If you've ever tried distilling vodka yourself... you know that - holy crap is it involved :P
Sep 19, 2006. 6:00 PMpropboy says:
Ok A) I can't believe I missed that episode of Mythbusters because I thought I'd caught them all, and B) after posting that I got inspired and bought a cheap bottle of vodka to do my own test. I haven't done a taste test yet, but it's still pretty smelly. But I figure it'll still make a decent bloody mary. :)
Sep 13, 2006. 7:05 AMMurf says:
Yes.. edspecially when you can buy a large refil bottle for a little more than the full spray bottle (atleast around here you can)
Sep 13, 2006. 3:49 PMtrebuchet03 says:
I think he's talking more of cheap $10-$20 rotga... And since its mostly water -- it's still cheap in the end :P I believe mythbusters confirmed this on smoke soaked suits -- and as mouthwash too I think. I highly doubt he's using Chopin or Pablo Picasso brands of vodka -- which by the way, Potato vodka can be delicious if you pay for it. There's nothing wrong the more common grain vodkas, but there is quite a difference (for those who like experiencing different tastes).

Try this it's easier, mix one or two caps of your choice of fabric softner into a quart spray bottle of water. Shake and use, it's safe and I love the vanilla lavender sent. Has not harmed my clothes, furniture etc.
Sep 13, 2006. 1:21 AMgerardburpo says:
No offense, but I think I'll stick with Febreze or a similar brand. I imagine this concoction is offensive enough to the olfactory senses as to render it intolerable. But then I'm pretty sensitive in that way.
