Step 5: The drivetrain

The drivie wheel with 8-speed cassett5 and the derailleur are used up front without modifications.  This worked out perfectly. I had to abandon my earlier attempt of using a wheel with a three speed hub because it needed a tension idler complicating the design.  Changing gears and braking is done similar to a normal bicycle with shifters and brake levers.
<p>I really like the idea of a 'No Weld' modification, anyone with minimal skill and tools could build this. </p>
<p>How easy is it to pedal and keep in straight line?</p>
amaximow excellent job. I am likewise of the older level of bicyclists and am in the process of designing a fwd recumbent bike. The Cruzbike kit that is sold is a lot more expensive so I like your approach. I am a Missourian temporary displaced to California. Can I see your bike up close sometime depending on distances. <br> <br>gardenjohn
this is a very cool bike. My attempt at a no-weld recumbent wasn't nearly as successful.
Good job! But please say how you fabricated the brackets to secure the rear wheel to the front forks. Are there any similar brackets available ready-made? Thanks.
