Step 6: Pros and Cons

My flight case was more that 60%cheaper.
You can design it to your needs
Easier to fix
Can be customised

Not as strong (unless build with real flight case hardware)
May not be as good quality
Hi! First sorry my english I am from Portugal. I have a hint to a guy on youtube who made a flight case type your post but a metal flight case around here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dXtMa2OnRTM the guy shows you everything step by step, there are eight films And thank you for the topic
I built a rack, but I put a mesh back on it, and mounted 1/4 jacks and power jack on the mesh so I could leave the equipment in when I want to switch some things around, and to maintain a flush look. Without real hardware, that thing may not make it through one real gig...
Do you have any pictures of you flight case... I agree it isnt very good but it was a side project as i was waititng for products for an other project. Oscar
It looks good so far, but where's the "lid"?

L
I chose not to build a lid as it would of complicated the design, the flight case is mainly for holding the equipment
Fair. But a flight-case should be a full-case offering full-protection in transit (which is why I asked).

L
I agree it would give protection, I might modify it. This was built from left over materails and was not a serious project... At the moment I am making a electric outboard motor and built this whislt the new equipment for the motor was in the post... Oscar
"Flight case" typically means something that you can check as luggage on a commercial airline and expect it to work at the other end. What is described here would be more properly known as a cabinet. Note that there are many vendors of flight case hardware (corners, latches, hinges, handles, etc.) for people who make their own flight cases. And much of the hardware can be kludged from what you can find at the local hardware store.
