Introduction: DS Lite to Gameboy

Picture of DS Lite to Gameboy

Has your top screen of your ds lite broke well don't fret because I have an tutorial on how to turn it into a new Gameboy!

Step 1: Step 1:

Picture of Step 1:

First you must remove all the rubbers front and behind of your broken ds then you must open the screws. You will need a tri-wing screwdiver to open them, once opened you will need to remove the broken top screen of the ds and throw that away.

Step 2: Step 2:

Picture of Step 2:

If your DS just flickers and turns off then you might have to bridge solder these to points.

Step 3: Finishing Touches

Picture of Finishing Touches

After you have done that you must enclose the ds and screw in all of the screws, make sure it's tight and then there you have it! Your very own SSGBA! (SINGLE screen game boy advance)

Hey im going to jaycar tomorow and i need to know what resister i should but exacualy. If you can reply with a australian link on the exact resister that will be great.

I kinda just ripped off the top screen and I found a way to stop it from flickering and shutting off. Hold the l button and the ABXY buttons it will boot in gameboy mode, it works for me.

Will this work on original ds

luelusten (author)wes21032015-02-12

The DS fat and DS Lite both are able to be modded like this but you will need a resistor from tests.

My ds doesn't have a gba slot

luelusten (author)AlexK32015-02-12

I think your device is a DSi not a DS then

luelusten (author)2015-02-12

To the people that want to try this. I have read a few people saying just bridging the connection and they sware it works, in every type of DS and DS Lite I tried this does not work it might be a FW thing when it checks the screen, I have tried resistors low as 160 and they seem to work, I can't state how long it will work for but this did work for me, I also didn't solder mine I want to be able to return the device back to stock if I get bord or need it for testing later so I used a glue gun and made the resistor in to a fork like point so it would hold its own weight and eletic taped the other side.

This mod is greate for units where the touch screen is out and the top screen has died.

ive bridge soldered it but now it turns off and no screen flash happens...

Vanism (author)2013-04-06

I tried making this and finished it all, but I turn the power on and the screen is black.

M5X6 (author)Vanism2013-11-04

that happened to mine too. you have to make sure the wifi board is plugged in.

Atlas Portal 2 (author)Vanism2013-04-18

Its probably because you didn't set you gameboy game display to the bottom screen

M5X6 (author)2013-11-04

Mine just has a black screen and stays on

M5X6 (author)2013-10-27

I really would like to do this but I don't know exactly what you mean by "bridge solder" in step 2. Thank you.

I'm a little confused by the end of that video. You take the time to show taking apart the top half, but not what to do with what was taken out. Are you supposed to take pieces of that and put them into the bottom half?

If not, does that mean you lose sound doing this?

Hennerz19 (author)2013-08-01

it is fine it reset the system and i removed the solder (it had no memory(it was wiped a few years back)) and now all screens work ^-^

Hennerz19 (author)2013-08-01

i did this and it flickered on and off then when i put the screen back on it booted up as normal so i bridge soldered it and it still flickered and turned off even with the top screen back on!! HELP!!!

SwaggerFul Swellow (author)2013-06-29

Can you do the same with a DSi?

tanksterbot (author)2013-04-01

It is better if you leave the ds alone, then it can still play gameboy games!!!

Gigavolt (author)tanksterbot2013-04-27

Well i'm telling you how to make it if your ds lite is broken!

kenkaniff (author)2013-04-03

I'd have left the top screen parts attached for protection, but still a neat idea. well done.
