Symptoms Of Fault

VW 06079 GENERIC P17BF. VAG 006079/10902/10903, P17BF, Hydraulic pump - play protection.

VW 06300 GENERIC P189C. VAG 006300, P189C, Function restriction due to insufficient pressure build-up. P1895, Reduced function because of pressure drop.

Loss of power (gone into neutral), no gears can be selected, hydraulic pump runs constantly, you can see hydraulic fluid bubbling/rising out of the breather, flashing spanner icon where gear number usually shows.

The Fault

The accumulator mounting within the DSG unit fails causing these faults

Within the DSG Mechatronic unit, the hydraulic pump pushes oil through the filter towards the pressure accumulator which provides the system with oil pressure when the pump is switched off.

The cast metal part that the accumulator seats in to is too thin for the pressure exerted, this causes this part to crack and for the system to lose pressure causing the mechatronic unit to fail.

To replace the cast metal part is a very time-consuming job and would only fail again in future.

The Solution

Our unique design repair restores full function to the DSG unit

Our unique repair kit allows you to repair the failed cast block. Our accumulator base mounts to the cast block restoring full function, our improved design accumulator simply then screws in place, providing a full-term repair for this common fault.

For some types of transmission, the repair is possible in situ – provided the mechatronic sump can be removed in situ. Even if this isn’t possible and the unit has to be removed our repair is still far simpler than replacing the cast block which requires complete disassembly of the Mechatronic unit.

No programming is required post installation. After the repair, pressure is restored and normal operation resumes.

You Will Receive

1 x Replacement accumulator (complete with o ring)

1 x Accumulator housing / cast block adapter (complete with o ring)

1x Accumulator spanner.

Step 1: Depressurise and Drain Mechatronic Unit

This repair can be carried out in situ on the vehicle if it is possible to remove the Mechatronic unit sump cover in Situ. This is the case with some vehicles not all. If you are unable to repair in place the gearbox will need draining down and the Mechantronic unit removing from the vehicle.

The Mechatronic unit is under pressure. Follow you vehicle manufacturers procedure for depressurizing the system. This process will vary by vehicle.

Using a 5mm Allen key socket loosen the screw shown slowly and drain down the Hydraulic fluid from the Mechatronic unit.

Step 2: Remove Sump Cover

Remove the sump cover fasteners. Take note of the location of each fastener for reinstall. Socket sizes required: 10mm socket, T30 Torx.

Using a flat bladed screw driver lever off the sump cover, taking care not to damage the gasket.

Keep gasket in place on sump cover for reinstall.

Step 3: Remove Accumulator

Although the Mechatronic hydraulic fluid has been drained down the accumulator could still be under pressure as it is designed to store the fluid under pressure when the unit isn't active. Inspect closely around the base of the accumulator to check for cracks or splits where the accumulator base has failed. If there is no sign of damage the likely hood is that our part won't cure the fault it is also likely the unit is under pressure and should not be disassembled. Only if damaged is evident and you are confident that the unit is not under pressure should you continue. If you are unsure or not confident; consult a professional.

Using a T70 bit loosen and remove the accumulator.

Step 4: Remove Accumulator Base Screws

If the block has fully cracked as shown here; remove all metal parts that have broken away.

Using a T30 bit remove the 3 screws shown.

Step 5: Fit Our Accumulator Base

Apply a very small amount of grease to the O-ring seal on the bottom of our Accumulator base. To aid with the initial sealing of this part.

Insert this part in to the cast block as shown, lining up the 3x screw holes with those in the cast block.

Reinstall the 3x OEM screws and tighten using an impact wrench.

Step 6: Install Our Accumulator

Apply a very small amount of grease to the O-ring seal on the accumulator.

Screw the accumulator in to the accumulator base.

Fully tighten using the spanner included with our kit.

Step 7: Completing the Repair

Ensuring the gasket seats correctly refit and fasten the sump cover.

Reinstall the drain screw and fully tighten.

The Mechatronic unit can then be refilled with hydraulic fluid (available from us), 1ltr is required. Note the breather shown here in the final image. If refilling on the vehicle this can normally be accessed from the engine bay. Pull the cap off of the breather and using a syringe push in 1ltr of fluid and refit cap.
