Dangling Rope Cat Toy

Dangling Rope Cat Toy
Our cat loves to eat anything that looks like string or cord; sadly that includes computer cables and the cords to our window shades. So, we decided to make something that would encourage her to play with "cat approved" strings like sisal rope and yarn toys. This is a simple project that lets you hang a set of dangling strings out a little from the wall so you can give your cat a little entertainment.

Step 1Materials

Materials
To hang string from the wall:
  • Simpson Strong Tie size A66 or any angle bracket with holes
  • fabric to cover the angle bracket (optional)
  • screws appropriate for your wall: wall anchors for dry wall or wood screws if you can use a stud
  • washers if the holes on your bracket are too big for your wall screws

To entertain your cat, you will need to hang anything that entertains them. You can try:
  • washers of various sizes
  • jingly cat toys
  • fake mice
  • yarn, sisal rope, cord, or anything safe for your cat to play with and chew on (I would avoid acrylic or plastic rope)

Total cost was about $15.00. It can be even less if you just use random materials from your house.

This is nice, and my little guy has more toys than I do. I teach my kitties not to chew on wire, by watching closely the wires they go for, and then painting them (the wire!) with tabasco. They get the message. Never twice.
