I'm making this right now, and it's not fun to make, but I think the recipient will love it ;)

thats a BRILLIANT very personal idea that the person will cherish every day.... but wtf are those paperclips? you didnt even bother to bend them nice!

I disagree. The charm of it is its homemade warmth. If you used index cards, and rings and even holes and printed it out, I think it'd be kinda boring. In my view there are two kinds of handmade things, the ones that are as perfect as possible and the ones that are "just" made with love, and I think it's really sad when one tries to look like the other. IMHO.

This would be a great holiday project for your kids/nieces/nephews, especially if you did the calendar and dates and just set them to work drawing little tiny pictures in the corner of each page for mummy or day. Even just cheesy handwritten messages like "I love you Daddy" would cheer someone up on a depressing Wednesday afternoon at work. I'm storing this one away for the school holidays when my daughter eventually tells me "I'm bored".

Because I'm a geek, and I would not enjoy sitting down and futzing with sheets and sheets of paper my tools of choice shall be Photoshop (or I suppose Illustrator) with the variable tools, a csv of values for each page made in open office (this makes getting the right dates a chinch), and Kinkos. It's might not look very "handmade", but I'd rather focus on what goes into the calendar than physically creating it. :D

Oy, I should stop writing any time after 12AM.

Great idea! I might be making one of these for a friend. I'm thinking of splitting up the days into something like this: Monday - Haiku day Tues - Free day Wed - Doodle day Thurs - Free Prose day Fri - Illustration Friday Day Sat - Comic day Sun - Photo day Any other ideas? I might be using blank index cards instead of paper, painting borders on each page. And I might be using pretty paper to separate the months and for a cover and things.

You are my hero. I am making one right now for a friend of mine having his 50th birthday on July 17. His calendar will start on that day, and be full of stuff that he and I have done, things we remember, jokes we share, etc. It's a blast to make it! He's going to love it. THANK YOU

This is GREAT! It is so sweet and low-tech, and whoever Greg is, I bet he adores you. To avoid losing steam at the end of the year, you could mix it up as you write each month --- do March, then December, then June, etc. Also, instead of the wire, you could use those metal rings that have a hinge and open up, then snap shut. Then your recipient could turn each day's page to the back instead of having to tear it off. They're going to want to keep it forever, even after the year is over. Bravo! I love this.

Wow, I've tried numerous times to do this, but I never get through it. This sums it up quite nicely, and I may try it. I'm pretty good at sticking to crafts, and if I tried, I would get this finished in time for Christmas. Thank you so much, I was so out of ideas! Tedious things keep me busy, and I should have fun thinking up ideas. Keep posting cool stuff!

It's really tedious work but given some creative input it makes a great gift. It has personality and it's going to be unique as I don't see people rushing to make one for every member of their family :)

I'm making one of these now. A paper cutter and a 3-hole punch that you can adjust the hole spacing on really speeds up the production. I've made 400+ sheets (I don't trust myself not to screw up at least a few times) in just about an hour. I'm definitely not going to be done with all the writing by Christmas, but hopefully by new years.
