Introduction: Deathly Hallows Wire Earrings

These are fun simple dangling earrings made only with silver wire, inspired by the book Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (which in my opinion is the best book ever written in the history of literature). I have previously made a wire pendant similar to this, but this one, I think, is easier (although smaller and definitely more tedious) and requires no glue. You can also use this design to make not only as earrings but also for a necklace or bracelet.

Step 1: Materials

What you'll need:

1. Silver 20 gauge jewelry wire

2. Silver 28 gauge jewelry wire

3. Jewelry pliers

4. Silver earring hooks

5. Sketch paper and pencil

Step 2: Sketching the Design

First I sketched out the design of the symbol, just to get the general idea of the shape and size before I start shaping the wire. Simply sketch out an equilateral triangle, with the line running down the middle, and a circle filling up the triangle. You can make them as small as you like for earrings (I prefer mine pretty tiny), or fairly large, if you making the symbol as a pendant for a necklace.

If you're no good with drawing, or you simply don't think you'll find this useful, go ahead to the next step: shaping the wire.

Step 3: Shaping the Triangle

Now to make the Cloak of Invisibility. To begin, take your 20 gauge silver jewelry wire and round nose pliers, and shape a small loop at the end of the wire. Then, move your pliers down about a 1/4 inch and bend the wire half way around the pliers to form the first corner of the triangle. Repeat once more, so that you now have three sides of the triangle.

To complete the triangle, wrap the extra wire firmly around the base of the triangle, right up under the loop. Cut off the extra wire.

Step 4: Shaping the Stone and Wand

To make it easier, we're going to combine the Resurrection Stone and the Elder Wand. (That doesn't sound right), So in other words, make both of them with the same piece of wire.

To begin, take a short piece of wire and as in the previous step, form a loop around your round-nose pliers. This will be the Resurrection Stone and should fit perfectly inside your triangle. If it doesn't, you may have to adjust the size of the circle.

For the Elder Wand, bend the wire straight down through the circle, so that it looks like the circle is being cut in half. Cut off the extra wire at the bottom of the circle.

Step 5: Putting Them Together

Now to attach the stone and wand to the triangle. Take your 28 gauge silver wire and cut a piece about 3-4 inches long. Place the circle inside the triangle, and carefully wrap the 28 gauge wire around the base of the triangle and circle, holding them together. Wrap the wire around about 3 to 4 times, them cut off the extra wire. Do this on all three sides of the triangle, holding the circle in place.

Step 6: Adding the Earring Hook

Now all there is left to do is add an earring hook. With your pliers, open the loop on the earring hook and place the loop on the triangle on it. Then close the loop, and your earring is finished!

Step 7: Finished!

Make one more earring and your pair is complete!
