Introduction: Decorative Earring Frame

Organize your dangling/chandelier earrings in a decorative frame and show off your collection.

Step 1: Materials

Materials: (can be purchased at any craft store)

simple/decorative frame (i used a long frame with detailed framing)
cardboard matching the size of your frame (from any box lying around)
plastic mesh sheet (can be found in the knitting section; if you go to a craft store you can choose from many colors; i choose a lighter color to contrast my darker earrings; depending on the size of your frame, you may need more than one sheet)
scissors
hammer and nails (to hang the frame)
glue/flat tacks

Step 2: Remove the Backing

Remove the backing (cardboard and glass) from your frame (if it has any). At craft stores, you can purchase a frame without the framing stuff. I chose a long frame to fit all of my earrings.

Step 3: Measure and Cut the Plastic Mesh

Measure and cut the plastic mesh to the size of the frame. Simple scissors should do the trick. Depending on the size of your frame, you may need more than one sheet of mesh.

Step 4: Measure and Cut Cardboard

Measure and cut a piece of cardboard to the size of the frame. This piece will be the piece to hold your mesh in place.

Measure and cut the cardboard so it looks like a frame too. About 1cm is good. This cardboard frame may show through the mesh, but you can paint it a nice color or leave as is. It won't make much of a difference.

Step 5: Secure the Plastic Mesh and Cardboard to the Frame

Secure the cardboard frame onto the your frame with the mesh in between.

You can use glue to glue down the mesh sheet or use a flat tack to tack the mesh down. It will depend on the type of frame you have.

Because of the depth of my frame, I was able to put the original back piece and create a space that allowed my earrings to hang.

Step 6: Hang Up Your Art Piece and Display Your Earrings

If your frame doesn't hooks or holes for hanging, put some in. Put up a nail and hang it. Simple as that.

Step 7: Be Creative

Originally, I was going to use an oval antique frame for my earrings, but it turned out to be too small for my collection. So I used a long frame to display my earrings. You can also use several small frames and arrange them on the wall for an artistic look. Also, you can get frames that are plain from the craft store and paint them to your liking.

Step 8: Questions

I'm not very good with directions, so the steps may be a bit vague. Feel free to email/comment on something. I'll try to clear it up.

Sorry for the lack of pictures. I didn't intend on posting it.

For a simpler route, buy a metal mesh letter tray (at any office supply shop or walmart), tie a ribbon and hang that up. That's what I used before I put more thought into it.

Thanks,
