How to make your own decoupage Spiderman bangles.

You'll need:
- comic books which you don't mind cutting up
- thick bangles (recommend at least 1cm width)
- PVA glue (I believe this is also called Mod Podge)
- gloss varnish (optional, but recommended)

Time: a few hours

Step 1: Create Base Layer

The first thing you need to do is create a base layer on your bangle; although this will only be a background, this is important so that you don't have to backtrack and fix any bare sections of the bangle later (especially if the bangles are a vibrant colour, like neon pink).

Cut up strips of comic books which match your intended colour theme, and glue the strips onto the bangle until it is fully covered. For the Spiderman bangle, you can use this colour theme to help establish a story; for example, having a "dark" side and a "light" side. This will be relevant later.

Step 2: Decorate the Inside of the Bangle

I recommend beginning with the inside of the bangle - due to the curve, it's the trickiest part, so it's best to get it out of way and save you from fiddling in this area when you are trying not to disturb the finished result of the outside section.

It's up to you what images you put on the bangle, but I used the inside to tell one story, and the outside to tell another. On the inside I wanted to document Peter's transition into Spiderman. As a science student, I personally loved the "I knew science would be the death of me!"

Once you have finished the inside of the bangle, seal with an extra layer of glue, and wait to dry.

Step 3: Complete the Outside of the Bangle

Once the inside layer is dry, you can focus on adding the final touches to the outside.

Remember in step 1, when I established a dark and a light side to the colour theme? This was to set the stage for the story on the outside of the bangle; the animosity between Spidey and Venom. Spidey naturally overlays the light side of the bangle; on the dark side, I used images of Venom, plus the ominous "he must die!" quote.

Step 4: Finishing Touches

To finish, add a final coat of glue all over the bangle, wait for it to dry, and then use a gloss varnish to seal. This helps to protect the paper.

There you have your own Spiderman decoupage bangle! A great way to get creative with comics, and a method which can be applied to all kinds of objects. Have fun!
