Have you ever looked at a burger and wished that it was a piece of cake? Well, if the answer was yes, than you've found the right Instructable. In this Instructable, you will learn to make a fun dessert (which happens to be vegan and free of artificial dyes) that looks like a typical fast food favorite! So get out those mixing bowls and heat up your oven, and let's get started!

Step 1: Gather Your Ingredients and Materials

  • For the burgers, you will need:
  • Buns:
    • One recipe of vanilla cake (I used half of this vegan recipe: http://allrecipes.com/recipe/231616/vegan-basic-va... ) Instead of using this recipe, if you would like, you can use a boxed vanilla cake; you will only need to make enough cake for a 4x8 inch cake. Many boxes come with enough mix to make two 8x8 inch cakes, so you would only need a quarter of that mix for this recipe.
  • Patty:
    • 2 graham cracker sheets (8 crackers total)
    • 2 tablespoons creamy peanut butter
    • 2 tablespoons apple jelly or other fruit preserves
    • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
    • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
    • 1 tablespoon brown sugar or coconut sugar
  • Tomatoes:
    • 2 tablespoons BaKol Strawberry Jel Dessert (or other red gelatin; I just like this company because they do not use artificial dyes).
    • 1/2 cup water
  • Lettuce/Guacamole
    • heaping 1 cup spinach
    • 1/4 cup organic raw blue agave
    • 1/2 cup - 3/4 cup All Purpose Flour
    • 1/4 cup powdered sugar or powdered sugar substitute
    • 1/4 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • For the fries, you will need:
    • 3/4 cup All Purpose flour
    • 1/2 tsp baking powder
    • 1 medium banana, mashed
    • 2 tablespoons creamy peanut butter
    • 1 tablespoon organic raw blue agave
    • cinnamon
    • sugar
  • Materials:
    • mixing bowls and spoons
    • jelly roll pans or other baking pans
    • a rolling pin
    • 2 (16 oz.) ramekins
    • a knife
    • a lid from a peanut butter jar
    • a pastry brush
    • One drinking glass with an approximately 3 inch opening

Step 2: Make the Burger "buns"

To make the burger buns, you will need one recipe of vanilla cake that makes enough cake for a 4x8 inch cake (I used half of this vegan recipe: http://allrecipes.com/recipe/231616/vegan-basic-va... ) Instead of using this recipe, if you would like, you can use a boxed vanilla cake; you will only need to make enough cake for a 4x8 inch cake. Many boxes come with enough mix to make two 8x8 inch cakes, so you would only need a quarter of that mix for this recipe.

First, grease and flour two 16 oz. ramekins. Then, pour your prepared batter evenly between the ramekins. Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius) until the tops of the cakes are golden and a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Let the cakes sit in their ramekins for about ten minutes before removing them and setting them on a cooling rack until later use.

Step 3: Make the "patty"

For the patty, you will need:

2 graham cracker sheets (8 crackers total)

2 tablespoons creamy peanut butter

2 tablespoons apple jelly or other fruit preserves

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1 tablespoon cocoa powder

1 tablespoon brown sugar or coconut sugar

The lid of a large peanut butter jar or other jar

A baking tray

Cooking Spray

1.Crush the graham crackers into small grains with your hands. To this bowl, add the peanut butter, cocoa powder, apple jelly or other fruit preserves, and baking soda.

2. Mix the ingredients together in the bowl. Add the brown sugar, and stir again until combined.

3. Place the mixture into your peanut butter jar's lid. My lid is a part of a 26.5 oz. peanut butter jar (just for size reference). It helps to spray the lid with cooking spray before putting the mixture in it, aiding with removing the unbaked cookie from the lid.

4. Drop the cookie onto a greased baking tray and bake for 10 minutes at a 350 degree oven. Do not remove the cookie from the pan until it is completely cooled.

Step 4: Make the "tomatoes"

In order to make the tomatoes, you will need

2 tablespoons powder from a BaKol strawberry Jel Dessert or other red gelatin

1/2 cup of water

1 small baking dish or other dish with upturned edges

One drinking glass with an approximately 3 inch opening

1. Heat the water in the microwave until it is boiling. Add the powder to the boiling water and stir until the granules are dissolved.

2. Pour the solution into the dish and refrigerate for at least an hour.

3. Use your glass to cut circles out of the chilled gelatin. It is perfectly fine if they overlap.

4. Cut out small triangles from the circles with your knife. These are optional and do not have to be near perfect, but they do add a tad of realism to the gelatin.

Step 5: Make the "spinach"

For the spinach (or guacamole, whatever you want it to be), you will need:

heaping 1 cup spinach

1/4 cup organic raw blue agave

1/2 cup - 3/4 cup All Purpose Flour

1/4 cup powdered sugar or powdered sugar substitute

1/4 teaspoon peppermint extract

1 pastry brush

a blender or handheld mixer

1. Blend the spinach in a small blender until it is finely chopped (and looks like the second picture). Add the agave and blend until the spinach has an almost powder-like consistency.

2. Add the flour and the peppermint extract and stir. Then add the powdered sugar and stir again. After this, add flour by spoonfuls until the mixture resembles a dough.

3. Drop the dough onto a floured surface and top with more flour. Roll out the dough until it is around 1/4 of an inch thick across. Cut off uneven edges.

4. Take a section of the sheet of dough and place it atop your cooked "patty". Fold the dough over itself, creating curled edges that resemble some sort of greenery that one would put on a burger.

5. To remove excess flour on the dough, brush the dough with a wet pastry brush.

Step 6: Make the "fries"

To make the "fries", you will need:

3/4 cup All Purpose flour

1/2 tsp baking powder

1 medium banana, mashed

2 tablespoons creamy peanut butter

1 tablespoon organic raw blue agave

about a half a cup of sugar

cinnamon

1. Combine all ingredients except for the agave. After the ingredients are combined, add the agave until completely mixed.

2. Drop the dough onto a floured surface and top with more flour. Roll out the dough until it is 1/4 of an inch thick.

3. Cut the dough into a long rectangle, and then cut the rectangle into fry-shaped sticks.

4. Place the sticks onto a greased baking tray. Bake the sticks for 14 minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit (or 175 degrees Celsius), flipping them halfway.

5. While the sticks are still warm, spray them with cooking spray.

6. Prepare a bowl with about 1/2 a cup of white sugar and a few shakes of cinnamon. Place the greased "fries" in the sugar mixture and roll the sticks in the sugar.

7. Set the fries aside until the preparation of the plate.

Step 7: Assemble the Plate

1. Place one of the vanilla cakes on your plate of choice.

2. Top the cake with the "tomatoes", overlapping the slices a bit.

3. Place the patty with the lettuce on top of the "tomatoes".

4. Top with the other cake. I rounded off the top of the cake a bit with a knife, and used those excess crumbs as seeds on top of the bun.

5. Place your fries next to the burger.

Step 8: Enjoy!

Have fun serving this cake to your friends! They will be amazed!

Yum! Best of luck!

Thank you so much! I love your Instructable (Murderous fur brownies). What a great first! Good luck to you too. :)

Thank you so much!

This looks great, I love it!

It would be fun to serve hamburgers and fries to your guests for dinner, and then surprise them with more "hamburgers" and "fries" for dessert! :D

That would be amazing! Thanks for checking it out. :D

That looks super good! I particularly like the burger patty, I think it is the most realistic dessert patty I've seen :D Have you taken a bite out of the whole thing? How does everything taste together?

Thank you so much!
I did take a bite out of the whole thing, and I was actually impressed! I liked how the chocolate, strawberry, and mint worked together. However, it was so big that you might want to eat it with a fork and knife, so you won't necessarily get all of the flavors at once.
Thanks again for checking it out! :)

Thank you!!

Thanks for checking it out! :)
