Almost forgot, per the criteria of the contest:

"clarity, ingenuity, creativity, quality of presentation, and execution of the Instructable"

Looks like you've got them all covered well. Good luck in the contest!

I am going to have to make some of these for my youngest daughter (32) b/c she loves Dexter. I may use chocolate cookie dough b/c she is a chocoholic. Thanks for sharing.
Kimberly^ (author) in reply to oleladydevineJan 13, 2013. 2:57 PM
I'm sure she will get a kick out of them! Mmmm...chocolate cookie dough will work out great, I'm confident, since the Royal Icing thoroughly covers the actually cookie. I'd love to see a photo of the final product. :)

Don't forget to enter these Cookies in the 2013 Halloween Challenge. Even non-Dexter fans (if they eggzist) will appreciate the creepy blood factor! ;-D

Kimberly^ (author) in reply to bajablueJan 11, 2013. 10:06 PM
Ohh, true! Thank you, I haven't done a Halloween Challenge yet!

Artificial "white" vanilla flavoring will keep the icing pure white.
Kimberly^ (author) in reply to chuckydJan 11, 2013. 10:05 PM
Yea, I used regular vanilla to kind of tone down the bright whiteness of the Royal Icing. For that matter, you don't even need to add vanilla if you want white, white.

These are great! I so need to make these for myself and my daughter to eat while we watch Dexter!! Just one question is there something I can use instead of the vodka for the blood?
jimdkc in reply to moonlitdancerJan 10, 2013. 8:32 AM
The alcohol evaporates when it dries. Using a non-alcohol substitute would increase drying time.
Kimberly^ (author) in reply to moonlitdancerJan 10, 2013. 7:43 AM
Thanks for the compliment. I used vodka, but any alcohol would work. The higher the alcohol content, the faster it dries. You can also try using vanilla extract since that is made with alcohol too. I haven't tried lemon juice, but I understand some decorators use it. Enjoy!
