EASIER AND FASTER WAY TO DO THIS
note: his way is affective, i learned to do it in HTML class, but why not let something else do the work for you?

1) if you have firefox (and I think chrome works too) search for an add-on called "unplug"
2) install
3) go to a flash game site (unplug searches for files, so you could also download movies, music, etc.)
4) click the unplug button on your navigation bar
5) click download
------end different steps-------
6) open the .swf file in a browser (i use my IE just because I never updated it so it starts the fastest
7) play!

Brilliant Tutorial!
Dark Magis says: Jan 21, 2011. 9:52 AM
Great tutorial. Thanks so much. I love it. I've been looking for something like this for a while. Makes being on planes so much easier. ;)
evanthepanther says: Jan 20, 2011. 8:32 AM
kind of pointless to have so many steps, also, what about the other .swf files that are on the page??

its a lot easier to use Orbit Downloader, and use the Grab++ function

I need help, the "save as" option on the file menu on the page after I find the URL with the SWF in it and put it in the browser is greyed-out, not letting me save. I have Internet Explorer on Windows VIsta.
EvilPuggy says: Nov 9, 2009. 10:04 PM
Thanks so much! It's a little different these days-you click "Open Pop-Up" now. But still, thanks! :]

I found that an alternatively to opening the source code and searching for the .swf extension, you can search for the actual SWF file in the cashe folder for your web browser. The actual location of the cashe folder varies with what browser application you are using. Fire Fox Users can type "about:cashe" in the address field to access there browsers cashe files.

thats fine if it uses a disk cache but my browser uses a ram cache
Dmabster says: Sep 24, 2008. 2:53 PM
Does not work I right-click on that page and it doesnt give me that option.
rocketman221 says: Dec 2, 2008. 6:59 PM
it depends on what browser you are using. it looks like firefox is used in the instructable. it works fine in opera. if its not under the right click menu in your browser try looking under view.
planeglory says: Oct 17, 2008. 9:42 PM
try look for source instead of page source it also matters what kind of computer you are using
BurningApple (author) says: Oct 18, 2008. 8:32 PM
Why would that matter?
BurningApple (author) says: Sep 24, 2008. 3:51 PM
What browser do you use?
Dmabster says: Sep 28, 2008. 12:39 PM
Internet Explorer
planeglory says: Oct 17, 2008. 4:33 AM
could you play it without Internet when you finish the steps?
BurningApple (author) says: Oct 17, 2008. 7:20 AM
Yes, if done correctly.
BurningApple (author) says: Sep 28, 2008. 1:20 PM
I used firefox for the tutorial, so that may be the problem.
planeglory says: Oct 17, 2008. 9:43 PM
how come it could not find .swf
BurningApple (author) says: Oct 18, 2008. 8:31 PM
It probably wasn't an swf file. Was it a video?
planeglory says: Nov 22, 2008. 5:56 PM
na it was the exact game you downloaded. but i never thought of doing a video.
BurningApple (author) says: Oct 18, 2008. 8:43 AM
I just tried it using this technique and it worked for me. Please check to make sure you are following my instructions.

I am having trouble. every time I go to play the downloaded game it comes up with a little cross in the corner of the page. Can someone help me?
BurningApple (author) says: Sep 22, 2008. 4:30 PM
Could you post a screenshot please?
kimliatach says: Sep 11, 2008. 4:34 PM
Or Get Orbit downloader and be able to right click and save anything, games film, images whatever -peace
Gavabc123 says: Sep 11, 2008. 12:34 AM
An even easier way, and right click somewhere next to the game, then click on 'View page info' and click the media tab then scroll down till you find the games .swf file. Note: I did this in FireFox 3 it might be slightly different for Internet Explorer.

THANKS
onlyonebowman says: Mar 14, 2008. 9:12 PM
thanks, ive been trying to do this just by saving the source code and putting into notepad. THANKS A BUNCH!
stratholm says: Jan 11, 2008. 2:45 AM
And not one person mentions wget. For all you folks having trouble with the downloading part try wget (free to download for windows comes with linux). wget runs at the prompt and you give it the command line parameter of 'wget {the url of the swf file}' and then press enter. It is built to download the file of whatever url it gives you. You could even have it download a whold html page. It won't get you source to dynamically generated code like php or asp but it works for images , games & movies.
Mr.Roboto says: Jan 8, 2008. 11:35 AM
I did this, but i can't save it, and when i am able to, i can't open it offline.
BurningApple (author) says: Jan 8, 2008. 7:19 PM
Do you get an error message or something?
Mr.Roboto says: Jan 9, 2008. 6:47 AM
What do you mean, i can save some of the things that i want, but when i open it, it says that i need to have the internet. Is this right.
BurningApple (author) says: Jan 9, 2008. 4:17 PM
Some do this because the owner doesn't want people stealing their work and putting it on their own website.
Mr.Roboto says: Jan 10, 2008. 6:51 AM
So what do i have to do to be able to save it, i can' even play any thing on fire fox, so what i do is go to the internet, go to the game site, i look at the view source ,copy the swf file, and then i open it in fire fox. After it has been opened, it says that i can save it, or open it with a flash player, and then when i save it, it always opens with some other thing that uses the internet. what am i suppose to do?
BurningApple (author) says: Jan 10, 2008. 7:05 AM
It won't work. The author has disabled it.
Mr.Roboto says: Jan 10, 2008. 11:20 AM
ok, well thanks any way
Sandisk1duo says: Nov 24, 2007. 9:03 PM
Great instructible! But you can't use this trick on some websites; couldn't find ".swf" with a URL. Just extensions, for example "/evolution/Evolution.swf" and when you put in the website and add this extension, it says that the page could not be found.
Sandisk1duo says: Nov 24, 2007. 9:07 PM
I tried to save the page, but when i opened it with the internet off, it said that the game is not available for redistribution.
BurningApple (author) says: Nov 25, 2007. 7:42 AM
Some games are like that, you need to be on the original web page for it to play.
ArtemisBlue says: Nov 4, 2007. 4:21 PM
Thanks so much. I've been glancing at this instructable and not realized I could use firefox. I love firefox. .
ArtemisBlue says: Nov 4, 2007. 4:49 PM
Forgot the other thing. When I open the file, it comes up in my browser (firefox) but nothing comes up, it's just white. And the status at the bottom says done. I even tried refreshing but still wouldn't work. I followed all the steps.
