Introduction: Dry Ginger Ayurvedic Coffee (Chukku Kapi)

Dry Ginger Ayurvedic Coffee (Chukku Kapi) is a spicy and sweet traditional South Indian beverage. A very good remedy for cold, its rich aroma opens nasal blocks and provides relief from throat infections and fever too. My Grand Mom used to make this for the entire family when someone has a bad cold or fever.

The Dry ginger Ayurvedic Coffee is quite simple to make and gives an instant relief. It makes you feel more energetic and warm on a winter day. This is a home remedial recipe that has been passed n down the generation


Dry Ginger:

Dry ginger has got many therapeutic properties like fresh ginger. Mostly dry ginger is used in powder form and easily available in most of the departmental stores.

Benefits:

  • Dry ginger has powerful anti-inflammatory properties
  • During winter it will keep you warm throughout the day and will prevent you from cold and flu
  • Relieve gastrointestinal distress.
  • Effective in eliminating gas in the intestines as well as act to help in the relaxation of the tract.

Cumin Seeds:

Used for many ethnic dishes, this seed has the ability to pacify all dosha types. It is well known for its positive effects on digestive health and its ability to cleanse and detoxify the body.

Benefits include:

  • Reducing gas, indigestion and cramps
  • May help absorb minerals from the intestines
  • Eliminating toxins and congestion from body and mind

Coriander Seeds:
This is the seed of the cilantro leaf and is small and round. This seed also balances all three doshas, with a beautiful effect on cooling high body temperature and excess gastric “fire”.

  • Reducing heat or acid in the stomach
  • Decrease congestion
  • Calm digestive system and helps joint pain
  • Improving skin irritation or rashes

Step 1: Ingredients

Preparation Time : 10 mins

Cooking Time: 5 mins

Makes - App 1 cup of powder

Ayurvedic Ginger Powder

Dry Ginger Powder / Chukku Podi- 1/2 cup

Coriander Seeds - 2 tbsp

Cumin Seeds - 1 tsp

Peppercorns - 1 tsp

For One Serving of Coffee (Kapi):

Water - 1 cup

Chukku powder - 1 tsp

Palm Jaggery - 1 tbsp or to taste

Step 2: Powder

Take all the ingredients given in the list of Powder in a blender. Make this into a fine powder.

Store this in a air tight container.

Step 3: Powder - Method 2

This is a traditional way of making the spices into fine powder.

You have a huge round cylindrical shaped stone which you roll over the ingredients.

You will be left with powdered spices.

Step 4: Coffee Time!

Now it the coffee time.

Take water in a sauce pan.

Add the Powder you just made.

Add the palm sugar and bring it to boil.

Give a mix so that all the ingredients combine well.

Step 5: Strain

Strain the coffee to remove any grains.

Serve it hot.

It will bring great relief when you are down with a col or fever.

It is a refreshing drink for sore throat.
