Take the excess of your stem color (or rip some more little squares) and apply them to the underside of the rose, adding another layer of protection to keeping it all together

And there you go! Go crazy, use any and all the colors you want.

Be very very careful with this instructable, guys. Giving your girl something like this will set a high standard for future Valentines day gifts. Yes, these are great and made of duct tape, but she's going to expect you to top it at some point in the future! This instructable will make your girl VERY VERY happy. She'll think you're the coolest guy ever. She will also expect kickass things like this in the future. *USE THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK*

I just made this rose, and [though somewhat painful to my thumbs from ripping the amazingly strong tape] I'm very satisfied! This is a great idea. A lot better than the tissue paper roses I used to make. These are much less fragile and much more durable. Hooray! :D It was a very fun project, indeed. I'm gonna make one for my friends for their birthdays. The girls, anyway. Thanks again!

Yeah maybe you can try pull a hell of great length of it and stick it somewhere high, then cut whatever little pieces you need, that may help reducing your ripping times.

or i made a holder out of two 4by 4 by 1 squares an a broom stick handle i cut to be about 2.5 inches then i just pull and cut

That probably would've been a good idea, lol. Now I have cool colors of duct tape that are a lot easier to deal with. Also, I recently used the memorization of your tutorial to make a rose out of something a bit "sweeter" for Valentine's day. Thought you might like to see how it came out. :) http://hazgirl22.deviantart.com/art/Fruit-Rose-Up-154371168

Yeah man that's a wonderful piece of work :) to me, the most beautiful hand-make flower is the origami rose, so fragile, so hard to make but so beautiful and so much alike to the real one.try upload one pic of it

Hey! Great instructable! I just made two roses and they came out great! I do have two small suggestions: After all is said and done, you can take some of your stem color and make a diamond shaped leaf. Construction is similar to the petal but folded in on both ends. Making a "kite" shape. It looks pretty natural, even though rose leaves are oval, but that would require scissors.(I generally frown on scissors where duct tape is involved) Also, once the rose is complete in all its glory, one can begin to fold the petals down in the opposite direction to which you constructed them. If you do this to the lower two or three revolutions of petals, it gives it a more open, bloomed feel. Again thanks for a great instructable! Skyline Ninja

My fiance has been sending me links to instructables for - I don't even know how long - and they've (almost) always been interesting, or fun, or maybe even *gasp* useful.

This one, however, takes the cake...or the flour, as the case may be. (Sorry - just couldn't help myself.) I absolutely love it - they are simply gorgeous - and would, I believe, make a really fun gift for people who like pretty things but - like me - would never remember to water the real thing. Or maybe as an attachment (I'd bet with a little work you could make these into 'bows' instead) to a larger gift or some such thing.

Anyways - great work - and as mjpage says - now I have an excuse to buy all the pretty duct tape! Just what I always needed...
