Duct Tape Batman Mask
introDuct Tape Batman Mask
Here's a Dark Knight version batman mask made of mostly duct tape. It
was made to enter in a county fair "duct tape creations"
contest. It won $15 dollars. It's fairly rough, but maybe it'll
inspire somebody.

step 1Custom fit for your head
To start, I laid out lots of strips of duct tape on my cutting mat, and sliced them into various sized smaller strips. Using a plastic grocery bag to protect my head, I st…

step 2The lucha libre mask phase
Added strips of tape to cover nose and cheeks, leaving eye holes.

I used a sharpie to draw on the mask (while it was still on) where to cut out to make room for a nose piece. This was made through trial and error with triangular pieces o…

step 4Let the shaping begin
Once the nose piece was in place, I stuffed the entire thing full of wadded grocery bags and put a few pieces of tape across the chin area to keep the whole thing in a soli…

All the shapes were created with wads of newspaper that were scrunched
and molded into the basic shapes I wanted, taped in place with masking
tape, and then covered with duct tape. It's like sculpting with paper
and tape.
|
| how long were the antennae??
|
| I was working on trimming off the extra plastic and everything was going
great untill i cut off WAY too much.
|
| Thank you for posting this!!! My buddy and I were so inspired we made

inspire you!
|
| How did you get yours so smooth?... We have made the general shape
quite nice, but yours looks like one piece of material as opposed to
lots of strips. Anyway, Thank you for the awesome idea! -Mike

I made the batman mask before I knew about instructables. Fortunately I
had taken a few photos of the build process. When I found this site I
used those photos to put together this instructable.

|
| That is so awesome, good job man!! I love finding cheep ways to make
costumes :)
|
| Could you play with this idea to make a mask form, if you will, to make
a better mask from paper-mache or plaster strips? I would think that you
would just keep it soild and then coat the form with vaseline so the
plaster will come off.
|
| how long are the antennae
|
| A plastic bag, Brilliant. Thanks for the inspiration.
|
| that looks exactly like the in Batman the beginning
|
| How do you make the plastic stay on your head as you add ductape?
|

says:
I trimmed off the handles first. Then I put the bag loosely over my
head (not over my face though--suffocating wasn't the goal here...), and
pulled the extra plastic back into a pony tail of sorts so the rest of
the bag was fairly tight. Then I taped the pony tail part down flat,
and added strips over the loose areas to get them flat. Hope that
helps. (It's really just trial and error. If something doesn't work,
or look good to you, try it another way.) Good luck!
|
| Oh, wait: When you add more pieces (like the nose) how do you get those
smaller pieces of plastic to stay on as you tape?
|
| Thanks! I ended up taping it to my gead and my sister put tape evenly
along the plastic.
|
| HAHAHA it looks like that flying wing behind you is part of id XD
|
| Holy crap. I MUST TRY THIS.
Excellent project!
|
| That's just awesome, LOL!
