Dumpster Dipping (for a small planet or just for fun)

Step 4Start of the run

Start of the run
I start out with an empty cargo bike made of a mountain bike fitted with an Xtracycle cargo conversion. The cargo bike was given to me by campus maintenance folks who were having trouble trying to fit it in the dumpster.
Biking is the best way to go. Low carbon output, fresh air, exercise, low stress, stealth, ease of maneuverability, and low threat projection.

Dumped vacuums are a large part of my donation program, most often only needing a new belt or a very minor repair. Some need no repair at all! I have a $2700 Kirby because someone didn't know how to change a belt. Right next to it was all of it's attachments and a set of 20 unused bags. Needless to say it took priority in my day, and all I saw to discover it was a dangling power cord I thought to use as a patch cable. To date, all of my instructables were made with, from, because of, or even starring parts that others threw away.

ye sman me too, most of my stuff is from dumpsters or from people that dont know how to fix stuff, I got a 27 inch tv that needed some resoldering and thats the tv I have right now, also a LCD monitor for my computer just neede some replacements that cost me 10 bucks, the LCD monitoris connected to the laptop I got from the street, the screen was cracked and they took out the Hard Drive, but that was it!! the rest was intact!!! and its pretty new (3 years old).
Also my desks, my drawers etc etc is mostly from the street. I have saved a lot of money doing this as well as recycling.

thanks for these tips!!! I love that people are doing this all around

same here vacuums, shop vacuums with one broken wheel, or dirt devils with a clogged hose, and then it's power tools I guess your not suppost to cut the cord off your dewalt saw with the saw blade, but it's an easy fix and power cords are a plenty in the trash, and then it's microwave ovens that need either a fuse or a door sensor switch......

The "Free" sign is a really good idea. I may have to implement that on my "dumpster dipping" during the summer.
