Introduction: Durable Wallet Made From Old Floppy Disk Cables.

About: look at "Interests"

This instructable will teach you how to make your very own extra-durable wallet made from floppy disk cables. I had quite a few old floppy disk cables and wanted to make something for the 5-day make a wallet contest so I thought they would work great. Turned out looking pretty good and is really strong.

Step 1: Materials

These are the materials you will need to make the wallet:
~ a couple floppy disk stata cables
~ a good amount of electrical tape
~ scissors
~ one pair of needle nose pliers

Step 2: Prepare the Cables

Get the cables into a usable form by taking off the connectors. To do this you must use needle nose pliers to pull apart the tabs on the sides of the connectors. This should allow the bottom of the connector to come off. The rest of the onnector is held on by little pins. Carefully peel away the cable from the connector because the pins are sharp. You should get a bare cable.

Step 3: Make Cash Holder

This step will teach you how to make the cash area of your wallet. Start by cutting 4 lengths of cable about 7 1/2 inches long. Take two of thoose and rip off 1/3 of it lengthwise so the cable is skinnier then it normally is. Throw away the 1/3 chunks. Put one 2/3 chunk onto one whole chunk and tape them together like in the first and second pictures. Using strips of electrical tape. connect the sides and bottom of the two pices of cable together. You should now have something like the wallet in the third picture. To make this stronger, make six strips of electrical tape about 2 1/2 inches long each, and put two on each side of the wallet and two on the bottom. The srtips should wrap all the way over the edge of the wallet. Your wallet should look like the one in the 4th picture. You now have a cash holder.

Step 4: Make Card Holder

This step will teach you how to make the card holder on your wallet. Cut a 7 1/2 inch piece of floppy disk stata cable and tape it to your cash holder with four 2 1/2 inch strips of electrical tape. It should look like the second picture. Once you have it partially attached, wrap electrical tape on the side of the wallet to cover and strengthen the card and cash holder tabs. It should look like the third picture. Finally, make to more of those tabs and attatch the bottom of the card holder to the cash holder and put a strip across those to keep them strong. It should look like the 4th picture.

Step 5: Your Finished!

Congrats! You now have an extra-durable stata cable wallet to make yourself feel geeky. I have hade mine for quite a while and it hasn't broken yet.
