Instructables
I made several of these bats to hang from our trees. They're really easy to make.

Step 1: Materials

You'll need two different sized styrofoam balls, black tissue paper, five minute epoxy, white glue, some white paint, some wire, a couple of black foamie sheets and an X-Acto knife.

Step 2: Make the body

Construct the body by inserting a bit of wire into the large styrofoam ball, press the small ball onto the wire and glue the two balls together with the epoxy.

Step 3: Make the wings and ears

Cut out the wings form the foamie sheet to look like the pattern. Cut some small triangles from foamie sheet for the ears.

Step 4: Cover the body

Cover the body with the tissue paper. This is done by tearing the paper into thin strips and appyling it to the body with white glue- kind of like paper mache. When the body is dry cut slots in the body ( shown with dotted lines) for the ears and wings using an X-Acto knife.

Step 5: Finishing

Glue the wings and ears on by inserting them into the slots. Paint on the eyes and fangs. Then make a hook by bending a bit of wire and inserting it through the body and bending a right angle on the end of the wire so it doesn't pull through. Glue the bent end of the wire to the body with epoxy. That's it!

this is awesome , but those large Styrofoam balls aren't cheap. :( The one I wanted to use for this cost over 20 bucks. might have to make a bunch of tiny ones that no one can see...uggg the price to pay for something cool.

I was thinking to add a funny twist you make a garden gnome with skydiving gear.
I am going to attempt it

Make sure to post pics!
I bet you could mod them to look like squirrels, elves, whatever fits the season.Great instructable.
Your "images" are as adorable as the bat.

You like that huh! :) I figured I should do some kind of diagrams since I didn't take any photos when I made them- now I know better. What's funny is I actually have a fine arts background- classical painter and all that. I like your name- you must be a fan of Thomas Carlyle: "Man is a tool-using animal. Nowhere do you find him without tools; without tools he is nothing, with tools he is all." I use that as a signature on another web board I visit.
Nice Job... When I first saw it, I thought you had paper machied around some balloons and after it all dried, popped the balloons, to create the head and body. This way works too :)
