Here is how to get the maximum amount of continuous strip for binding or piping: http://www.freepatterns.com/content/content.html?content_id=1018

This could also be made using a cardboard drum cut to size to keep the sides supported so you can sit on it. I love it like it is but it won't stand up to our abuse without some support of a frame. Thanks!

I had so, so much fun making this ottoman. I am not much of a seamstress so it was my first time making and sewing piping. It was great! I did have some measurement issues. My piping, using the 20 inch in diameter circle, needed to be longer than the prescribed 62 inches. (maybe my circle ended up bigger than 20"?) Also, I used only one seam for my rectangle, because I had so much fabric to play with. So, I new that (2) 33" pieces would be too much assuming I would use a 1/2 inch seam allowance. Therefore, I subtracted that 1" (1/2" x 2 {1/2" from each side of seam})from the total since I was only going to sew 1 side seam. That left me with a total rectangle measuring 65" (33" x2 -1"= 65). I couldn't get my arms around why I would need a 62 inch piece of piping for 66" (or in my case 65") piece of fabric. I used those measurements anyway but ended up cutting off what I didn't need. Because I was leary, I didn't sew the seam until AFTER I sewed it on to the piping. That way, I could easily cut off what I didn't need. Make sense? If there is a good explanation for the published measurements, PLEASE feel free to explain. As I mentioned, I am NOT a seasoned seamstress so I love to be taught. In the end, it worked great and I had a blast. THanks for the great Instructable. My daughter is so excited. We put 3 pockets and decorated them with iron on patches of flowers and butterflies. So cute!!! Jenny

I like the idea, but do you have any suggestions for adding supports so you could sit on it?
