Jul 16, 2006. 11:52 AMaustin says:
fish are stupid enough that they can swim in because the funnel guudes them in but they cant swim out . . With this design why do you need two bottles, why did you not just reverse the top of one bottle ?

you could use the other bottle to make it longer. I made one of these with a three liter bottle but I didn't use a second on because I'm just using it in a creek. I drilled holes in it so the water flows through and comes out easier.

used to catch turtles in the duck pond using a floating frame with nails driven in and bent in toward the center.
Jul 18, 2006. 11:06 PMaustin says:

its a tradition around here for snapper soup but yea i used to have some sliders in a kiddy pool i dont like snapping turtles they are nasty. u just need a strong cable or nylon line and a big hook and just put some chicken on the hook and leave it in thje pond for a couple of days and u can get a snappign turtle. also if u go when its hot they bake in the sun if your quick make sure you grab them by the back end. also if u got big cajones u can walk the bottom of a pond go slow feel for spiky rocks and get your two feet around the rock, if it wiggles its a turtle. then you just gotta find out where the head is so you dont lose a finger. make a fist and push it at one end, they wont bite a big fist unless u try to punch at it. get the tail and pull it out. get momma to clean and cook.

Wouldnt a plastic milk jug with the bottom and cap removed work better for the catch? I mean, its got a handle and you can probably scoop em up and keep your fingers out of the way long enough to drain the water and get it into a holding container while you hunt for more or get it home...

My uncle has a pond and used to trap turtles using a square floating frame made of PVC pipe with a net strung across the middle and some little ramps around the edge. Apparently they will climb up the ramp and sun themselves on the platform and then jump into the middle where the net contains them until they can be removed. I believe it also has a partially submerged platform in the middle so they have somewhere to stay until he gets a chance to check the trap.

Just made mine out of staples and a 16.9 ounce water bottle. I am assuming it has the same size opening as a 2 liter bottle, going to bait it and throw it in a pond the next time I am having a picnic in a park
