Making a basic machine to turn water into flammable gas is super easy, I'm not even 18 yet. I bet anyone with brains can make electric fire. It works by splitting water, into Hydrogen and Oxygen. Together... THEY BURN!!!!!!!

Step 1Stuff you need

Stuff you need
STEP ONE: Stuff you might need.

1) Cutting tool (knife, scissors, can opener...)
2) glue or solder (hot glue, silicone, electric solder)
3) multimeter
4) small container that won't melt
5) AC to DC converter a.k.a charger that plugs into the wall or a powerful battery
6) two pieces of metal
7) piece of plastic
8) baking soda
9) you!

Important note here the water is not actually burning. electrolysis is being used to cause a decomposition of water. Creating oxygen and hydrogen "2H2O (L) yields 2H2 + O2." putting a flame to the hydrogen and oxygen causes an exothermic reaction creating water not destroying it. p.s. any ionic compound (I.E. metal bonded to non metal) may be used instead of baking soda.
 Good Instructable on electrolysis though

You laid out a nice simple experiment from my physios classes of 1960.  Well done and clearly a good demo of the principal. 

Now for fun, get an old arc welder, use carbon rods, set up a submerged arc in water, capture the gas released (known as Brown's Gas) which you can pump into tanks and burn like propane in an engine.  The technique is likely as old as you and it is fun to play with.  The carbon from the rod joins with the hydrogen in the water to make carbon-hydrogen gas that is very burnable indeed.  I played with this in the '80's and we ran a small emergency generator on the gas rigged with a propane carburetor.

* In hydrogen internal combustion engine vehicles, the hydrogen is combusted in engines in a similar method to conventional engines
* In fuel-cell conversion, the hydrogen is reacted with oxygen to produce water and electricity, the electricity used to power motors and the like

Cant you use regular water in stead of having to make a solution? Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the baking soda release chlorine gas? Not that it would bother me, I've dealt with many dangerous elements, but just wondering. Great instructable, makes you wonder if you could power a motor with water?!?! Real fun idea!

you know it's almost impossible to store hydrogen as a gas without specially contructed tanks, it would just seep throught the material that is supposed to be containing it because of it's small atomic size.

This is basically Seperating Hydrogen (H) from Water (H20) Using Electrolys If you Made a container from the hydrogen with a Lead you could pump the gas into a engine (Lawnmowers are the best Not your brand spanking new car) The fuel input line to power the engine by water
