I learned how to make this English Trifle by watching my parents as a young child. Over the last 50 years, I have been making it for Thanksgiving, Christmas and other special occasions. It is always eagerly consumed by family and friends. Here, in pictures, is how it is made. The last part is a short video (probably below this text) which shows me making the custard to pour on top of the trifle. The one I've shown in this Instructable will serve some 15 to 20 people, so you may want to scale down the ingredients to suit your needs. I trust you will enjoy it if you make it. You may like to serve it with cream, but for me, I like it plain.
