Mark around the tube where you want to cut, a pencil works well. I marked down the length of my felt 12 inches from the wide end of the tube.

Cut the tube with a hacksaw or dremel. Depending on the bit you use with the dremel, one side may be much messier than the other (see pic 3). Try to use your dremel in the direction that will put the clean edge on the side you are keeping.

Use a belt sander or utility knife to try to make the cut as square and flat as possible.
