I think that is a terrific idea and a quick one. But wont eating the cardboard be bad for the dogs? Especially the tiny ones. I have a 3# chi. And Dad, your idea was terrific, too!

One of my dogs fav. toys is a green rag that was about 2"wide and maybe 8-12" long. We tied two or three knots in each and named it his "Knotty Rag". He's had 2 of them for over a year and they are holding up well with no strings or small bits to choke him. He is only a Chihauhau and the knots are great for him when he has trouble with a tooth!

If you have a bigger dog like me try throwing a two liter bottle to them. when they try to pick it up it just slips out. its fun to watch and I think the dogs have a good time too

Lovely idea. UNfortunately, i have no dogs... but my other half keeps pet rats! Add 3-4 of them together, and they're about that big :-) Since rat's cannot have peanutbutter(can choke them) I like the idea of using yougart. for the tubes, tie with a fiber rope, or twine. for the bone, add some REAL fun, and plug the ends with a piece of carrot! Make sure the yoguart is low sugaror sugar free(rats, and some dogs are genetically diabetic, and they won't care anyhow, if you use plain yougart or flavored. Afterall, compared to dogfood?) add 2-12 rats, and enjoy :-) as a bonus, you could use the rope to hang the treat from the top of the dog's crate, or the critters cage, to make it more of a "challenge". the longer it keeps them occupied, the better.

Fancy rats... In fact, there's a brand new litter of little fuzzies! They JUST opened their eyes...so cute when they're that young. I suppose mice would enjoy this too, but they're just not as smart. I tried it with the rats, and they enjoyed it as a game. Mice, I think, would rather just have the food.

no ribbons. My Border Collie would eat them and I finally weaned her off yarn, so I don't want to go there again. Paper towel and TP rolls are one of Chloe's favorite toys. She can hear the roll become empty from across the house and before I can put up a fresh roll, she's beside me begging for the old tube. We play catch with them and she chews on them until she gets a new one (plenty more where that came from. I hadn't thought of peanut butter for that toy - we use it in Kong toys and it's one of her favorite things. Yeah, there's no problem with peanut butter all over the house - she gets every last drop out of the carpet. I hate the carpet anyway.

same here bean machine- its ok for small dogs but larger breeds will just tear it open in seconds- there is a reason the dog toys are so expensive! they are durable and tested

you really dont want your dog accidentally swallowing the ribbons. Figure around $3000 to have the vet surgically remove it. Freezing the contents is a good idea, most zoo's will do something similar on warm days. I've seen polar bears given blocks of ice with fish mixed in
