wow...I see all these snails out on my back porch, especially when it rains. All different sizes; big, little and VERY little. Because I think they are cool little creatures, I ran in here to the computer to see how to raise them; not for food though..........just because I like them. So, here I am! I'll soon be raising snails!

In winter we cover the jar with leaves and check on them every few weeks, they don't exactly hibernate but they do chill out a little and are less active.

They are cute; I bet they have names too! My granddaughter has some pet snails; they live in a large jar called a Demi-jon. We put some moss in the bottom and kept it damp, they have thrived. I think they are too big to escape through the top now. See the photos below.

i have a question. do you breed the snail or just keep one at a time
Jun 2, 2007. 12:50 AMxenobiologista says:
I bet you could just get a snail automatically by leaving it the container with lettuce in it in the garden overnight. One place my family lived we had huge snails in the garden (ugh) and they laid their eggs next to the fence. They actually looked like tiny chicken eggs a few millimeters long. So there's that option too if you know where to find them.

How would you get snails from the internet, in England?
Aug 7, 2006. 8:51 AMTheCheese9921 says:
very cool but couldnt you put like some moss in there to make it more "homey"
Aug 10, 2006. 7:51 AMradioeyes says:
For my moss and cones for terrariums, I like to give them a quick round in the microwave. It kills off most of the tiny critters. NOTE: Mr. snail probably wouldn't like the microwave.
