well, it was done with adobe photoshop elements, which came as a bundle with my computer... photoshop is a professional package, which is fairly expensive, but I think there is a freeware program called 'the gimp' which does the same things.

i have photoshop CS3 but it should be the same: click layer, then at the bottom is flatten image.
