Introduction: Easy Bedside Caddy Made From Two Placemats

About: I like to write, read and build things, anything. I love technology and I have been known to build things just to see how they work. I have also been know to take apart things to determine why they don't work.…
This is an easy bedside caddy you can make with two place mats. Everyone has a few things that they need near their bedside, you can make this one in less than 30 minutes.

Benefits
  • Keeps things organized

Step 1: What Do You Need?

You will need:
  • Two placemats of the same width (I used two identical placemats
  • Pins for keeping the fabric in place
  • Sewing machine or you can hand sew
  • A tape measure or ruler

Step 2: Plan the Pockets Sizes

My placemats are 13 inches x 18 inches.
Fold one placemat to create the pouches so that the smallest pouch is 7.5 inches tall.
I have separated the two placemats so you can see how the folded one attaches to the unfolded placemat.

Step 3: Plan What You Will Put Inside

Visually place what you will want in the bedside organizer to ensure it will fit in the organizer. Be aware that thicker items will require more space when sewing, so keep that in mind.

Step 4: Pin the Placemats Together

Pin the placemats together. Once you have pinned everything, it is a good idea to insert under your mattress to ensure it does not drag on the floor. This also gives you a chance to adjust the pocket sizes before you start sewing.

Step 5: Sew, Sew, Sew!

Do not sew against the pocket, the feet of your sewing machine will get stuck.
Reinforce the pockets starts so you do not have to resew at a later time from all the wear you will get from the caddy
Top part of caddy will be tucked between mattresses
You can make smaller pockets but the pockets will be thinner so you will be restricted in what these pockets can hold.
Take out the pins as you sew and before you actually reach the pins. Do not sew over the pins!

Step 6: Place Under Mattress, Fill the Pockets and Enjoy!

Place the top flap of your bedside caddy between your boxspring and your mattress. If you do not have a boxspring put it in between the mattress and the frame of the bed.
Put your things in and enjoy!
